January 07 - Lonesome August Nights

The SR (Special Products) import label announced the February 2020 release of the LP / CD set "Lonesome August Nights" featuring the previously unreleased August 18, 1972 Dinner and Midnight shows. Both recordings come directly from the original tapes.

From the press release:

The SR label presents Elvis at the peak of his possibilities and without any doubt Elvis’ second week of this August Vegas season presents him this way. If 'Rock' is an attitude, then the man has it. The performances are terrific, rough and sharp.

The August 18th Midnight Show was first released on vinyl on the SR box-set edition of "Not Too Sweet". This release marks it debut on CD. The concert has completely been remastered.

On August 18th, just before Elvis had to go onstage, The Colonel informed Elvis that his lawyer had delivered the divorce-application at the Los Angeles Superior Court. Elvis' answer was a simple nod with the head and two unbelievable shows!

Elvis apparently seemed to enjoy this new found freedom, delivering an unbelievable Las Vegas season. He looked magnificent and performed all the songs at the maximum of his capabilities, presenting the best of his repertoire from the previous two years combined with his recent biographical songs as only he can deliver them.

We are happy to be able to combine a great performance with great audio quality in a product that you can enjoy.

Both the ambiance tapes are of good quality allowing you to enjoy the live atmosphere with Elvis and his band. at the Las Vegas Showroom.

As stated, the shows are great, with a bit of variation in the songs: "See See Rider" opens a solid performance with "What Now My Love" and "My Way" as the new additions to the setlist.

Looking at his personal affairs, the two sentimental songs in his setlist are not randomly chosen, the performance of "Polk Salad Annie" is the best performance with a great job of Jerry Scheff on bass.

The release is limited to 400 copies and comes in four different colors vinyl - black, red, white and blue -, housed in a single sleeve with two bonus CDs and a glossy double sided 30 x 30 cm art-card and sticker.

Next to this edition comes a limited deluxe edition of 60 copies - in two sleeve variations - with a t-shirt (size L), 60 x 30 cm poster certificate, card and pin.

And finally a double CD edition, limited to 100 copies, housed in a long digi-pack  - available in two variations - containing a glossy 50 x 26 cm poster and a 25 x 13 cm art card.

Bad Guy!

Veteran actor Tom Hanks says he is set to play a "bad guy" in the Elvis Presley biopic and he hopes to prove the naysayers wrong that he can only play the good guy.

Hanks who was awarded the Cecille B DeMille award at the recent Golden Globes ceremony is playing Elvis' shifty manager Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann's untitled biopic on the legendary musician. Relative newcomer Austin Butler is playing Presley.

Backstage at the Golden Globes Hanks joked, "If all goes according to plan, I'll be playing Colonel Tom Parker to Austin Butler's Elvis and hopefully I will then finally have an answer to all your stupid questions about why I will never play a bad guy. I think I'm about to do that. That's who I am playing next!"
