March 27 - Original Spliced Recordings

The CMT import-label announced the release of a new volume in their "Spliced Takes" series, entitled "Ghetto Power".

From the press-release:
After last year's smash release "Stax Power" the producers had to do this new release, made in the same editing style this will be the must have 1969 release for it's 50th anniversary! Including all tracks recorded and presented in a way as if it is one long session without pauses, this one kicks some serious A... New splices create some extremely rare portions and extended versions and make them all sound brand new! Also some Dubbed masters are spliced with Undubbed for a new listening experience.

Disc one starts of with a five(!) minute version of "Long Black Limousine" just listen to the emotion in his voice! "This is the Story" has been created from the undubbed master, with some portions of the normal master, gives a totally new feel to the song.
"A Little Bit of Green" (4:28 minutes!) has an unusual rehearsal version spliced with some alternate takes, because of the slower pace of the rehearsal the producers have also slowed down these takes and it works very well, so you can enjoy a really different performance!
"Rubberneckin'" rocks like never before due to the addition of the first "licks" of take 1. The extra chorus at the end of "Without Love" gives the song (if possible) an even more emotional "load"
"Suspicious Minds" includes a spliced version , some rehearsal portions and at the end we get the original master hit version... which was worth all the hard work and still rocks after all these years!

After almost 80 minutes it's time for disc two! Again some cool extensions make them all sound very, very different.

"The Grass Won't Pay No Mind" (3:49 minutes) has been edited very cleverly at the end and brings you more "Elvis" then before. "Power of My Love" has a much longer intro, but due to the use of different takes (8 splices!) it all sounds very natural. On "Kentucky Rain" (5:22 minutes) Elvis does his own backing with the "Rain in my shoes" lyrics and the first verse has been repeated

We could go on, but almost all the tracks on this smash release sound new and fresh, and although every Elvis fan probably has at least 10 releases of these sessions.. This is the one we've been waiting for, for 50 years!

CD 1: Long Black Limousine (Spliced Take 5, 2, 6, 9) - This Is The Story (Alternate Master) - Wearin' That Loved-On Look (Spliced Take 11, 14) - You'll Think Of Me (Spliced Take 1, 6, 14, 8) - I'm Movin' On (Alternate Master*) - A Little Bit Of Green (Rehearsal - Take 2, 3 - Rehearsal) - In The Ghetto (Spliced Take 5, 7, 13) - Gentle On My Mind (Vocal Repair*) - Rubberneckin' (Spliced Take 1, 2*) - Hey Jude (Spliced Take 1, 5) - My Little Friend (Undubbed Extended Master) - Inherit The Wind (Spliced Rehearsal / Take 1) - Mama Liked The Roses (Vocal Overdub #2*) - Don't Cry Daddy (Alternate Master) - Poor Man's Gold (Spliced Take 1 - Edit) - From A Jack To A King (Spliced Take 4, 5, 3) - Without Love (Spliced Take 3, 4, 1, 1) - I'll Hold You In My Heart (Take 1 - Edit) - I'll Be There (Spliced Take 2,3*) - Suspicious Minds (Spliced Take 5, 5, 7) - Suspicious Minds (Take 8) - Come Out, Come Out (Instrumental Take 2*).

March 26 - Lightning Strikes Like There’s No Tomorrow

The Straight Arrow import- label announced their first release of 2019, titled “Strike Like Lightning” containing the previously unreleased recording of the August 8, 1969 Midnight Show performance. In 2019, the Straight Arrow team will focus their 2019 releases on the concert years 1969-1972.

From the press-release:
We are aware of the fact that we have released 1974-1977 Elvis concerts of late. These releases were appreciated by the hardcore fans, but we strongly felt that the time had come for a change. On the 50th anniversary of Elvis' fantastic comeback in 1969, we are now able to release a tape that captures the electricity of that event. Until now, we had not released any 1969 live shows before, simply because most live tapes from that year are poor quality. Imagine our excitement when we got hold of a good sounding tape of a sensational gig from that magical year!
The August 8th, 1969 M/S is a previously unreleased recording, taken from a newly found audience recorded master-tape. This concert was never available in good sound quality thus far. There is a CDR with a so-called August 5, 1969 Midnight Show in circulation, which is the same concert, taken from an xxx-generation copy, but wrongly dated and in far inferior audio quality. Original cassette paperwork proves that this concert is definitely the August 8th, 1969 M/S!

As a small bonus, we have decided to add 4 tracks, recorded during the August 27th, 1969 D/S. Two of these tracks were released by the “Victrola” label on their conceptual 3CD album “Flesh, Blood and Bone” but these were never before available in decent sound quality, before now.

As usual, this release is presented in a deluxe 6-panel digipack, with a collection of photos taken in Las Vegas, NV, August 1969. Most of the photos were taken by Ann Moses, editor of Tiger Beat Magazine. Dig the psychedelic, period perfect artwork! As for the concert itself... wow, just wow! Elvis is groovy, sexy, earthy, charismatic, funny... And singing with real fire in his belly, never really heard again after this. Pure greatness.

It’s a new Straight Arrow so you know what to expect! Every second was digitally restored, every click manually removed, every drop-out fixed to achieve optimal listening pleasure.

Tracklist: 01. Opening Theme - 02. Blue Suede Shoes - 03. I Got A Woman - 04. All Shook Up - 05. Love Me Tender - 06. Jailhouse Rock / Don't Be Cruel - 07. Heartbreak Hotel - 08. Hound Dog - 09. Memories - 10. Mystery Train / Tiger Man - 11. Monologue (Life Story) - 12. Baby What You Want Me To Do - 13. Runaway - 14. Are You Lonesome Tonight - 15. Yesterday / Hey Jude - 16. There’s no Tomorrow

The SR import-label announced the release of “There’s no Tomorrow” containing the previously unreleased August 10, 1973 Midnight Show performance, taken from the original high-quality tape.

From the press-release:
To be released in the middle of April, There’s no Tomorrow (SR Records) will focus on Elvis’ August 1973 Vegas season, featuring the midnight show from August 10, 1973, previously unreleased and taken directly from the original high-quality tape.

The SR attitude is to present Elvis at the peak of his possibility and without any doubt Elvis’ first week in Vegas August season still presents him at the top of his possibilities, delivering great shows. If Rock is an attitude, then the man still has it. The performances are terrific, rough and sharp.
Elvis’ tolerance for Vegas has reached its limit in this season and the man will do nothing to hide it. But the beginning of the season is certainly promising and in this show in particular his enthusiasm shines through in every note. Elvis performs all the songs to the maximum of his possibilities, also pushing the band and giving the right time and presenting all the best of his repertoire ranging in all musical genres as only he can do.

We are happy to be able to associate great performance with great audio quality in order to be able to obtain a result that you can enjoy too. The ambiance tape is of very good quality, as you can appreciate both Elvis and the band and at the same time you can feel and live the live atmosphere of the intimate Las Vegas Showroom. The show has already said is great, starting from his latest single Steamroller Blues then with autobiographical You Gave a Mountain & My Boy then with the anthem An American Trilogy passing the best single of 1969, Suspicious Minds without forgetting the glorious fifties with Heartbreak Hotel and Mystery Train…. All the songs are very well performed. The Best song We can say I Can’t Stop Loving You: both Elvis and the band are pushing strong with a great job of James Burton guitar.

This new SR special Product will be housed in a deluxe 300 grams single sleeve that contains the 150 grams vinyl, a bonus CD and bonus glossy 30x30 cm double sided art card.

In order to create a special collector’s item, the 400 copies will come in four different vinyl color variations with a glossy sticker. Besides the 400 “standard” copies there is an additional limited edition set of 50 copies with exclusive content.

Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind

The Luxor / DAE import label present “Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind” the re-issue of the classic bootleg as a double vinyl / CD set.

From the press-release
The CD “Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind”, originally released in the late 90’s was the very first outing of the famous March 18, 1974 performance in Richmond Virginia. At the time it was probably the best sounding soundboard recording available. And it still is!

Luxor realizes the show was made available on vinyl before but as this is probably the best show of Elvis in 1974 we thought it just cannot be missed in the vinyl series of DAE / LUXOR. We have left out the pre-show as this part was already featured on the DAE release “Let Me Take You Home”.

The show is remastered and updated in the best way possible! This release is very limited and is available in red or blue vinyl presented in a gatefold sleeve. And of course the show is included on CD too. Get it while you can and add this awesome LUXOR product to your collection.

Priscilla Presley Responds To Funeral Planning Reports

Priscilla Presley has responded to reports that have claimed that the former wife of the late Elvis Presley has planned her own funeral and has recently made all the appropriate instructions to be buried at Graceland next to Elvis.

Priscilla Presley posted on Thursday via her personal Twitter account that the recent reports regarding her funeral plans are completely bogus and in fact, she has no plans what-so-ever to be buried next to Elvis.

Recent Radar Online posts stated that Priscilla, 73, reached out to Graceland’s trustees and all the plans were finalized revealing that the final resting place plans were a done deal.

This is the Enquirer folks… please don’t believe everything you read. Don’t plan my funeral just yet, I’m very healthy. Never planned on being buried next to Elvis. What will they come up with next!? 🤣

“Priscilla still thinks of herself as Elvis’ widow and her rightful resting place is next to him,” a source told Radar Online.

The same source even went as far as to say that Priscilla wants an “elaborate funeral” and when her time comes she wants all of Elvis’ music to be played and to be completely surrounded by photos of herself and Elvis.

It is also claimed that Priscilla previously underwent a complicated surgery removing deadly skin cancer from her face. The ordeal allegedly got Cilla thinking about tying up all her loose ends and ironing out her last wishes.

“Priscilla feels that she played a defining role in Elvis’ life and that he was her only true love,” the insider said, adding, “Even though they divorced
four years before his death in 1977, she believes they shared a loving bond until the day he died — and beyond the grave.”

However, Priscilla is calling this total BS and feels she has a lot of living to do yet. As previously reported Priscilla Presley’s 2019 total net worth is somewhere around $100 million while her and Elvis‘ only daughter Lisa Marie Presley is next to nothing.

A lot of Elvis’ dedicated fans have been pretty upset by the financial circumstances concerning Lisa Marie and all the legal and personal battles she has been undergoing for the past few years following her divorce proceedings from her fourth husband Michael Lockwood.

They reportedly believe that Elvis’ baby girl should in no way be suffering financially while ex-wife Priscilla Presley continues to rake in a massive yearly income all of these years later riding on her famous husband’s namesake.

March 16 - Riots in Paris

French yellow-vest protesters set fires, smashed up luxury stores in Paris and clashed with the police on Saturday in the 18th straight weekend of demonstrations against President Emmanuel Macron. Large plumes of smoke rose above the rioting on Paris' landmark Champs-Élysées avenue. The protesters also set fire to the famed restaurant Fouquet's which Elvis Presley visited when in Paris in 1959. As the demonstrators had dispersed, the famed avenue was a blackened expanse.

The next step was Las Vegas, Nevada, Elvis would perform an almost month long engagement from July 31st until August 28,

In the city that he failed to win over back in the 50’s. Obviously nervous, Elvis would be performing twice a day, but would the audience accept him this time? The answer is a definite yes! Elvis sold out show after show, and the audience was ecstatic, with a new band selected by Elvis himself, and backing vocalists, Elvis conquered Las Vegas, singing his older hits Jailhouse Rock, Don’t Be Cruel, All Shook Up and Heartbreak Hotel but also recent hits like Suspicious Minds and In The Ghetto, while also showing some of his roots by playing the electric guitar, and performing select covers of artists and music styles that inspired him. Elvis showed the audience that he was still as great as ever.

Bobby Morris Biography

Due for release from Hudson Music on May 1, 2019 is the book "Bobby Morris My Las Vegas - With Elvis, Sinatra, Streisand, Darin, Prima & More" by Bobby Morris and J. J. Grant.

From the publisher:
"My Las Vegas is the incredible life story of Bobby Morris, who arrived in the U.S. from Poland at age ten, where he shined shoes and dreamed of being a drummer, and rose to become a music legend both behind the drums and in the Vegas entertainment industry. Leaving home as a teenager during the height of the Great Depression, Morris witnessed the birth of bebop coming from Harlem, and is himself credited with laying down some of the very first beats of rock n roll.

Hearing about a little town out west called Las Vegas, Morris arrived there in 1950 and proceeded to carve out a niche for himself in the music and entertainment management worlds, ascending to accompanist to the greatest stars of all time: Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher and dozens of others.

Achieving fame as the drummer for Louis Prima s Witnesses during a golden age in Vegas, Morris eventually became the conductor and friend of Elvis Presley. He rubbed elbows with American presidents, playing the Kennedy Inauguration and befriending a young actor named Ronald Reagan. Also an important figure on the business side of the industry, Morris ran the successful Bobby Morris Agency, Inc. from his own building in downtown Las Vegas, and was involved in management, booking and entertainment direction of many of the major hotels and venues on the Strip.

This, his autobiography, is the inspiring and nearly unbelievable story of one man achieving his dreams and rubbing elbows with the greatest personalities of the twentieth century in the process.

Also included are Bobby's tips on success in the music business, preparing for an audition, business negotiations and more."

Chauncey Crumpacker Died

Chauncey "Chick" Crumpacker, a three-time grammy-nominated producer and executive for RCA Victor who brought Elvis Presley to the label, died on Tuesday. He was 91.

Born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, Crumpacker's career in music began in 1953 in RCA Victor's A&R department shortly after moving to New York City. During his time in A&R, he played a key role in bringing Presley to the label from Sun Records and then toured and traveled with the now-iconic rocker. He also tried to bring Johnny Cash to the label, but was ultimately unsuccessful after the label failed to support the move.
