September 28 - Lil' Chart Record

As most fans know, the legal heirs of Elvis Presley lost a lawsuit in Germany claiming a fortune from Sony Music Entertainment Germany for what they called the "exploitation of Elvis Presley's greatest hits". The Judge hearing the case in the Munich court threw out the claim by Elvis Presley Enterprises for a share of the record company's profits over the past 40 years & disagreed. EPE decided to appeal. The new chapter of the Legal battle is set for January 17th when a second court will judge the claim.

Charts

The CD "La Collection RTL" dropped from #56 to #94 on the album chart in the French Speaking part of the country. On the French Compilation Album chart this album dropped three spots to #18.
The CD "The Real... Elvis" dropped one spot from #33 to #34 on the Irish Album chart.

Lil' Record

The self-proclaimed “best rapper alive” can lay claim to a new mantle: Bigger than Elvis. Lil Wayne has surpassed Elvis Presley’s record of appearances on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, the magazine announced Thursday. The King of Rock and Roll held the record with 108 songs on the chart from its launch in 1958 to 2003. But with Lil Wayne’s appearance as a featured artist on the Game’s new jam, “Celebration,” the hip-hop star now has 109 songs on the list. Still, Billboard noted that Lil Wayne’s meteoric rise in the record books is in part due to rappers’ tendency to share credit on tracks. Weezy is not listed as the lead artist on the majority of his tracks — unlike Presley who was the marquee singer on all of his songs. In an apples to apples comparison, The King still rules; Lil Wayne has just 42 singles on which he’s the main man, though not including his self-aggrandizing “Best Rapper Alive.” 30 hits by Elvis Presley were not included on the Billboard list as they charted before 1958.

September 27 - Elvis Murdered By A Prince

A new book focuses on one question: Who Murdered Elvis? From the press release: Presley's father knew he was murdered, but his cries for an investigation were blocked by every level of the government - why? On November 20th, 2008, two years after the government rejected reopening the Presley case with concrete evidence, Elvis researcher Jared Parker was brutally murdered. Parker was going to expose newly uncovered letters written by Elvis implicating Mob and FBI operatives who were threatening his life. Who's behind the cover up?

Lil Wayne Enjoys A Feat Previously Fit For Only A King

As he debuts as a guest (with 2 Chainz) on Juicy J's "Bandz a Make Her Dance," the Billboard Hot 100's top debut at No. 71, the rapper ties Elvis Presley for the most Hot 100 appearances - 108 - among men. The pair trails only the "Glee" cast's 204 visits for the most among all acts since the chart launched the week of Aug. 4, 1958.
Among solo males, Lil Wayne and Presley rank above James Brown, who's third with 91 Hot 100 hits. Ray Charles places fourth with 74 entries, followed by Elton John (67). Elvis Presley's pre-1958 hits were not included in these totals.

September 20 - Roll Over!

The Straight Arrow importlabel announced the release of the CD "Wednesday Night Roll Over!" containing an audience recording of the the March 26, 1976 midnight show.

From the press release:
It’s All About Elvis! A week into his March-April engagement at the Las Vegas Hilton, Elvis continued to offer generally dynamic performances, filled with good humour and a sense of fun. A good deal of the set from the midnight show on March 26, 1975 incorporated songs from his sessions at RCA Hollywood from earlier that month, all of which would appear on the Elvis Today album. Three-quarters of his two most recent singles received an airing as well, with ‘Promised Land’ sounding frisky indeed. The often-lengthy, angry and too-revealing monologues from the previous summer in Las Vegas were now gone.
On this set is a superb-quality off-line recording of the entire show, and it’s a delight. There are commendable performances of 'I’ll Remember You’ (with a quick one-liner of Dionne Warwick’s 1967 hit ‘Alfie’ at the start), 'It's Midnight' (with a funny false start), 'Big Boss Man', ‘And I Love You So', 'Burning Love' and his current top-twenty RCA single, the dramatic 'My Boy.’ Elvis even throws in the seldomly performed ‘Until It’s Time For You To Go.’ Wednesday’s child might have been full of woe, but Wednesday night’s gig at the Hilton is full of go-go-go!

As fans have come to expect, this recording is of very good quality, sourced from an early generation copy of the original cassette. It was recorded by the same fan who taped shows used for our previous release, "Amore, Elvis". The digipak contains excellent liner notes and is filled with photos from the March-April 1975 engagement. As usual, these recordings have been carefully engineered to be presented in the best possible sound. If you have enjoyed "Amore, Elvis", you will love "wednessday Night Roll Over"! That’s a guarantee, baby!

Elvis and Sheila met each other in Las Vegas. Elvis performed 'And I Love You So' many times during his concerts and dedicated it to Sheila.

September 14 - Four Wild Budget Tigers

The MFX import label announced the release of volume 4 in their "Elvis: Wild Tiger At The Hilton" CD series. This volume contains the complete and previously unreleased January 28, 1974 Dinner Show.

From the press release:
The MxF label will release soon the fourth volume of “Wild Tiger at the Hilton'' featuring the complete and unreleased Las Vegas January 28, 1974 Dinner Show.
After almost five months of rest, Elvis back to the Hilton in better shape and stronger respect the previous season. The early season show here presented is without doubt better as quality respect the one included in the volume 3. Elvis appears concentrate and his performance is superb , He deliveries a long show, practically 60 minutes….respect the classic 45.00 min. of the rest of the Season. Elvis was very energetic on stage, full of enthusiasm he sang with power and sensitivity, delivering a solid and heartfelt repertoire like the “new” songs “Spanish Eyes, Help me and Let Me Be There recent hit from Olivia Newton-John” and the classic “Trying to Get To You” sang terrifically. At the same time he introduce the oldie “My Baby Left me” without forget the classic early 70’ songs like You’ve Lost Than Loving Feeling, Polk Salad Annie and Sweet Caroline. As you can see from the track list the number of the classic oldies in the show are significant reduced. This season will be the first with the new agreement , Elvis signed two years of contract performed twice at year, but only two weeks at the time rather than the previous four.

Best song: If You Love Me The Love from Elvis for the song cannot be denied, He able to make the own song.. delivering an original version with a full reprise. The show is unreleased and complete, Here we present the show directly from a first generation copy of a privately-recorded 60-minute cassette. The sound was painstakingly restored for your listening pleasure. The sound quality here is incredible good, considering it was taped from the audience. Elvis’ voice is loud and clear, the band sounds very powerful in very good balanced mix with some great James Burton’ guitar solos, the audience is never too intrusive giving instead the real feeling of the concert.
Like its predecessors, this new release will be presented in a beautiful four panel digipack with a collection of photos taken during the Season. The recording excellent quality and the superb show give to Wild Tiger At The Hilton vol.4 the status of unique.
Don’t miss it!

Graceland At 30 - Better Than Ever

A leading source in business news and financial information calls "Graceland at 30 - Better Than Ever." In a new article on Forbes.com, the high-profile magazine looks at the many advantages of adding Graceland to your bucket list and how music lovers will get their money's worth on a day spent at the king's home.

"While devoted Elvis fans might spend an entire day examining the many exhibits, the average visitor can easily do Graceland well in three hours or less on a normal day, and as tourist attractions go, it is three hours very well spent," says Forbes contributor Larry Olmsted.

Olmsted compares his trip to Graceland to his first time visiting Elvis' home in 1990. He looks at the many exhibits on display and how the expansion of Graceland has grown tremendously over the years, all while continuing to preserve the legacy of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

"Graceland is a very interesting – and extremely well run – attraction that is a seminal part of American culture and speaks volumes to music, celebrity, and yes, history. But admittedly, most of all to Elvis."

Auction Results

The holy book, given to Presley on his first Christmas in Graceland in 1957, was expected to raise around £25,000, but went for more than double the price.

The bible was used by Presley throughout his life until his death on August 16 1977. It contains his handwritten notes, thoughts, annotations and underlining throughout. Poignantly, one of the many lines emphasised by the troubled entertainer states: "What is a man advantaged if he gain the whole world and lose himself or be cast away."
Karen Fairweather, sales room manager at Omega Auctions, said: "It was a really exciting atmosphere in the room, we had 300 people and there was bidding online and on the telephone across the world. You could hear a pin drop when it sold for that price.

"There were three rival bidders on the phone and once it got over £20,000 each bid was taking a while, because they each had a price in mind for the bible and they were thinking about it. There was a round of applause when the hammer went down. It was incredible."
The winning telephone bidder, who did not want to be identified, was an American man based in the UK
A movie contract signed by Elvis for the 1962 film, Follow That Dream, went for £6,000 and a pair of shoes made by Black Flagg Brothers, owned and worn by Elvis, sold for £6,500.
However, a pair of The King's briefs, unwashed and still soiled, went unsold. Bids for the light-blue underpants worn underneath his famous white jumpsuit during a 1977 concert performance, reached £5,000, failing to meet the £7,000 reserve price.
The entire Elvis collection, owned by a single British collector, sold for just over £100,000 at the sale at Omega Auctions in Stockport, Cheshire.

September 07 - Love My Aloha Vinyl

Love Me Tender ranked #78 on list of Top 100 Country Love Songs: Since its release in 1956, ‘Love Me Tender’ has been one of Elvis Presley‘s most popular songs — and one of the most recognizable love songs of all time. Lyrics like, “Love me tender/Love me sweet/Never let me go” are so simple, yet poignant, that they have made this addition to the Top 100 Country Love Songs countdown a ballad for lovers and for parents and their children, too.
Presley performed ‘Love Me Tender’ on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ one week before releasing the song. The next day, RCA received one million pre-orders for the tune. It went gold before it was even released, and it continues to be one of the King’s most popular.

September 04 - CD Collage

Artists Mirco Pagano and Moreno De Turco are celebrating the king's music with a new collage made up of Elvis' classic album covers. According to the Daily Mail, the pair pieced together 6,500 Elvis CD covers to create the iconic image of the rock 'n' roll legend.
The artists created an entire collection of legendary musicians to highlight the damage caused by music piracy. The duo's piracy collection was on display in an exhibition in Milan.
"Piracy, like a virus, infects and destroys the music from the inside and prevents the artists from succeeding and become idols like they did in the past," said De Turco.
