January 31 - Sold Out 45's

Elvis Presley's Graceland shared the cover of the 45 RPM single 'Can’t Help Falling in Love / Rock-a-Hula Baby' which they will giving away to visitors who tour the Mansion on February 12, 2022. The single is limited to 1,000 copies.

Not Sold Out yet

The Pyramid import label announced the release of volume 12 in the 'Sold Out! The Ultimate 8mm Collection' DVD series which should be out next week.

Publicity stated: Sold Out is back with a bang!

One night in 1977, probably sensing that things were not going well for him, Elvis asked his gospel group J.D. Sumner & The Stamps to join him center stage. Surrounded by his favorite singers, Elvis sang the gospels that he loved the most, including ‘Bosom Of Abraham’ and ‘You Better Run’. He was now finally part of a gospel group, like he’d dreamed of in his teens. It was a stunning moment, and fortunately it was captured on 8mm film. No doubt this is the most significant unreleased Elvis footage to emerge in recent years, and we are proud to release it for the first time on ‘Sold Out volume 12’.

There’s more from that final year, including a raunchy ‘One Night’ from May ‘77, a longer-than usual ‘Early Morning Rain’ and a powerful ‘Unchained Melody’ (nearly complete too!), sung for the last time and with great emotion too. A vocal tour-de-force that truly demonstrates Elvis’ greatness as an artist, even in his darkest moments.

We’ve included a number of films from the final concerts in Cincinnati and Indianapolis,  including semi-professional footage with sensational close-ups. It’s very moving to see the Indianapolis footage and realize that these are his final moments on stage. This is historic footage that belongs in every fans’ collection.

There’s also fantastic footage from the great touring years, 1971 and ’72, with Elvis in fantastic form, delighting the crowds with a sincere ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’, a wild ‘Hound Dog’ with a rockin’ guitar solo, a superb ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ with reprise, and much more. Up-close and clear, this is quality footage that you will revisit time and again.

This is one of our finest releases yet. Over 80 hours of restoration work was done to present these unique 8mm films the best way possible, without compromising the integrity of the original footage. Pyramid prides itself in bringing the fans new and unreleased Elvis material every single time, and we are confident that you will love this release. This is an essential release and a true must for your collection.

January 30 - Lego Elvis

Lego presented a new mosaic set that we have been waiting for in this series for a long time follows today: a mosaic by Elvis Presley called Lego Art 31204 Elvis Presley - The King. The finished mosaic measures 50 x 50 nubs and thus has the typical dimensions of for the series 40x40cm. As a special detail, one is installed in the lower right corner of the picture 2 x 4 tile printed with Elvis’ signature.

Publicity stated: As always with Lego Art, you can build different motifs from the parts of this set. Lego has opted for some of the most well-known recordings of the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, with the third individual motif in particular underlining his legendary status: It shows Elvis in white overalls with a red flower necklace, which he wore in 1973 at his 'Aloha from Hawaii' in Honolulu - the first concert in history to be broadcast live via satellite in many countries and which finally made him a superstar.

The set Lego Elvis Presley - The King is already the tenth mosaic of the Lego Art series. After the rumors about the set have been circulating for about a year and a half, it will now start on March 1, 2022 finally on sale - but first exclusive at Lego.

The set, whose recommended age is again at 18+, contains a total of 3445 parts and has the usual manufacturer's suggested retail price for Lego Art individual portraits of 119.99 euros. The parts price is therefore just under 3.5 cents per stone, which, however, is only of limited significance in the case of a mosaic.

Note: Lego has provided the official pictures and a description of the set today, but has not yet activated the product in the Lego online shop. The button is currently still nowhere, but it can only be a matter of hours before the set also appears in the shop and additional pictures are added there if necessary. We’ll keep you up to date.

For those who want to delve a little deeper into the world of Elvis and the origins of the set while building, Lego is once again offering an online soundtrack for this mosaic, to which a link in the form of a QR code is located in the set.

Hargus Robbins Died

Grammy Award winning session pianist Hargus "Pig" Robbins died, he was 84.

Robbins, a Country Music Hall of Famer and session pianist was one of the go-to pianists of the Nashville’s A-Team. His only / last recordings for Elvis Presley was on the 2008 'Christmas Duets' album on the tracks 'Blue Christmas', 'I'll Be Home For Christmas' and 'O Little Town Of Bethlehem'.

Fellow Nashville A-Teamer Charlie McCoy once noted, “Pig Robbins is the best session man I’ve ever known. Anytime Pig’s on a session everyone else plays better.”

January 18 - Like A Black Tornado and More

The Memphis Recording Service released the CD 'Like A Black Tornado - Live at the Boston Garden' 10 days before the original release date.

"This show demonstrates the raw energy and spirit Elvis displayed when performing away from his Las Vegas engagements, reminding everyone that, finally, he was back!" according to the press release.

The original mono soundboard recording of Elvis Presley's captivating November 10, 1971 performance has been remastered, carefully restored and remixed to true stereo. It comes in a deluxe digi-book with an accompanying 40-page booklet that includes rare photographs and memorabilia taken from this performance, along with introductory notes.

Tracks: Also Sprach Zarathustra - That's All Right - I Got A Woman / Amen - Proud Mary - You Don't Have To Say You Love Me - You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' - Polk Salad Annie - Coming Home Baby (Instrumental) - Love Me - Heartbreak Hotel - Blue Suede Shoes - One Night - Hound Dog - How Great Thou Art (In Part) - Introductions (In Part) - I'm Leavin' - Bridge Over Troubled Water - I Can't Stop Loving You - Love Me Tender - Suspicious Minds - Coming Home Baby (Instrumental) - Funny How Time Slips Away - Can't Help Falling In Love.

The 1971 Soundboard Collection & More

Due for release from the Redemption import label is 'The 1971 Soundboard Collection & More' 6-CD-set.

From the press release: 'The 1971 Soundboard Collection & More' featuring all known soundboard recordings plus the essential rare and alternate 1971 studio recordings.

This deluxe 6 CD set features recordings from 6 shows recorded during the first Vegas season plus one tour show recorded in Boston Massachusetts.

The first Vegas season of 1971 started on January 26 and finished February 23. During these shows Elvis sang some of the tracks from the just released 'Elvis Country' album. Examples are 'Make The World Go Away', 'There Goes My Everything' and 'Snowbird'. All shows are presented as they were recorded: in glorious original mono sound.

In 1971 Elvis’ record company released three completely new studio albums, five 45 RPM singles, three Camden budget albums and one compilation box-set. A highlight on this set is the only known live version of the (at the time) new song 'Only Believe'. A studio version would be released in June 1971 on the 'Love Letters From Elvis' album, but the song was recorded a year earlier.

The fully packed bonus section included in this set contains not less than 25 rare and official unreleased versions of studio tracks recorded in 1971. This disc features unedited masters, unreleased mono masters and further unedited recordings and alternate takes. The mono masters, like all of the tracks on this box set, are a huge improvement over previous releases. They never sounded better.

The (officially) unreleased version of 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face', initially recorded as a duet with Ginger Holladay, who was there during the sessions with her sister Mary to provide backup vocals, is another highlight on this bonus disc. There are three additional versions of this great song featured as well.

Get this ultimate deluxe edition while it's still available; it will round up your collection, along with the official deluxe album releases and the recent 1971 Nashville release.

Preview Day By Day 2021

Here is a short preview for the Day By Day 2021 Yearbook.

Also available in high resolution on >>> YouTube

2021 saw the release of ‘Elvis Back In Nashville’, a 4 CD / 2-LP set featuring Elvis’ 1971 studio-recordings. Listening to these performances fifty years later, and wiped of overdubs, Elvis really shines. A great example of how Elvis still manages to surprise us after all this time.

There were more surprises. Elvis' performance on Frank Sinatra’s Timex show never sounded better, thanks to newly found acetates and we enjoyed new 1970 and 1974 soundboard releases in "stereo" on CD and vinyl.

The Follow That Dream collectors label treated us with new concerts and the ‘His Hand In Mine’ and ‘Pot Luck’ sessions and a great ‘Jailhouse Rock’ box-set. Elvis’ musical legacy was categorized in discography books covering his demo’s and acetates, his first EPs and his U.K., Asian, Army, Japanese and Follow That Dream catalogues. Other books covered his Army years, airplanes, the memoir of Elvis’ first real girlfriend, movies and the 1972 tours. Fans were treated to a wealth of quality 8mm fan-shot footage, showing Elvis live on stage from 1970 until 1977. Each volume was a “Sold Out!” release.

Over 10 Silver and Gold Record Awards underline that Elvis' work still sells today. Talking about sales, the iconic Hagstrom Guitar he used in the '1968 Comeback Special', sold for US$ 500,000 while his Eyelet jumpsuit, worn during his Madison Square Garden concerts, realised over US$ 1 million.

But this year too, we lost more people who were there when Elvis was still alive, including the beat behind Elvis from 1969 until 1977, Ronnie Tutt, and bass-player Bob Moore who played on almost 250 Elvis songs.

To help you look back at 2021, another interesting Elvis Presley year, I compiled all of the above, including the hundreds of new music releases on CD, vinyl and cassette-tapes, text, photo and graphic books, and movie releases on DVD and Blu-ray, in this comprehensive, day-by-day 2021 yearbook.

The book is fully illustrated, with almost 60 in-depth reviews and articles on the main - and odd-ball - releases of the year, by fans, collectors, authors and experts from around the world. The 350 pages in this book, filled with the good, the bad, the funny and the sad, show that Elvis Presley still matters today… you hold the proof in your hands.

The 2021 edition was created with great contribution by experts, authors and fans from around the world: Carlos R. Ares (Argentina), Piers Beagley, Nigel Patterson and Geoffrey McDonnell (Australia), Andy Pendl (Austria), Robert Gilbert (Canada), Michael Sander and Thomas D. January 16 - Elvis Presley - Un Fenomeno Mondiale

Published by NovAntico Editrice is the 156-page book 'Elvis Presley - Un Fenomeno Mondiale Nelle Cronache Italiane 1956 - 1959' ('Elvis Presley - A World Phenomenon - Italian Chronicles 1956 - 1959') by Luca di Luca Castellino and Ernesto Zucconi was released December 6, 2021.

Description: The first volume in the ‘Elvis Presley - A Worldwide Phenomenon’ describes how the media covered Elvis Presley from 1956 to 1959. The Elvis phenomenon, as the authors write on the back-cover of their book, has grown beyond the standard of stardom, with celebrities such as Rudolph Valentino or Marilyn Monroe, becoming the iconic representation of an uninhibited generation that no longer wanted to live according to the morals and ethical principles of their parents’ generation.

Elvis was both an object of worship for young men and women all over the world, but also a threat to many parents. They were worried by his pelvic movements and his disruptive proxemics, which were in stark contrast to the moral values of the fifties, not only in America, but also in Italy.

Based on the research of 31 newspaper titles, (youth) magazines and many other documents from this period, the authors compiled an overview of 458 articles and citations on Elvis Presley from this time-frame, including his influence on other Italian artists, who started to copy him on and off stage.

Leafing through the pages, and reading the original coverage of the Elvis Presley  phenomenon - that strange white boy with a black voice, bright clothes and his hair in a crazy quaff, who changed the history of music and the society of his time  - really comes alive.

The next volumes will cover the years 1960 to 1964 (volume 2), 1965 to 1969 (volume 3), 1970 to 1974 (volume 4) and finally 1975 to 1977 (volume 5).

January 15 - Sold Out! Cars and CDs

The German Bear-Family on-line shop listed volume 12 in Pyramid import 'Sold Out!' DVD series with February 14, 2022 as the release date. More information when available.

High Notes At The Kiel

The Rag Doll import-label released the CD 'High Notes At The Kiel' with Elvis Presley's June 28, 1973 performance at the Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis.

Publicity stated: Rag Doll is back with a brand new unreleased audience recording performance! ''High Notes At The Kiel' contains Elvis his performance at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis on June 28, 1973.

The June 1973 tour is often considered one of Elvis best tours and while this certainly is true, some dark stuff went on preceding Elvis show on June 28, 1973 in St. Louis, MO.

Backstage moments before Elvis was supposed to take the stage Vernon Presley called Dr. Nick to the singers hotel room, only to find an Elvis that was passed out barely breathing, after an injection with a stimulant and putting Elvis in a bath tub full of cold water they put him in his nail studded jumpsuit and Elvis took the stage to loud applause.

Not showing any signs of what had happened only moments before. As seen in recently released 8mm footage and pictures one has to ask themselves was this story dramatized or was it all true?

For the first time we can now listen to the infamous concert containing one of Elvis his best versions of ''I Can't Stop Loving You'' and ''I'm Leavin’'' we also have a great performance of ''How Great Thou Art'' including a reprise, a beautiful ''Help Me Make It Through The Night'' and ''What Now My Love'' among the recently introduced ''Rock 'N' Roll Medley'' and a rousing performance of ''Steamroller Blues''.

The person who recorded this show unfortunately missed the first and last song but the majority is here and worth listening to and should be part of any serious Elvis fan's collection. We are releasing this as a digipack filled with pictures of the show.

Tracks: I Got A Woman / Help Me Make It Through The Night / Steamroller Blues / You Gave Me A Mountain / Love Me / Blue Suede Shoes / Rock 'N' Roll Medley / I'm Leavin' / How Great Thou Art / How Great Thou Art (Reprise) / Hound Dog / Fever / Something / What Now My Love / Suspicious Minds / Band Introductions / I'll Remember You / I Can't Stop Loving You / An American Trilogy / A Big Hunk O' Love.

Live In Philadelphia

The Ampex import-label released the CD 'Live In Philadelphia' with Elvis Presley's November 8, 1971 show, as recorded from the audience in Philadelphia, PA.

Publicity stated: Out now is a new CD from the Ampex label that is the follow-up to last years 'Kickin' It Down In Baltimore' with our new release 'Live In Philadelphia' we present you the show Elvis gave on November 8, 1971 in Philadelphia, PA.

Elvis gave a stunning show at the Spectrum with reviews citing ''16,000 Scream as Presley Brings Back Rock and Roll'' and he did bring back Rock and Roll! This show had everything an audience member could hope for with classics such as 'Heartbreak Hotel', ''One Night', 'Are You Lonesome Tonight'' among more recently recorded material like ''You Don't Have To Say You Love Me', 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling' and even gospel with ’How Great Thou Art’.

Joining Elvis for one night only during this performance was Sweet Inspirations drummer Jerome ''Stump'' Monroe and while Jerome was unprepared he gave a different vibe to most of these songs, Jerome would fill in for Ronnie Tutt on a couple of occasions during the 70's (December 7, 1975 Las Vegas, NV and June 24, 1977 in Madison,WI). Also during this show Elvis was backed by a 15-piece orchestra consisting of local musicians led by conductor Joe Guercio.

Here we present a brand new source for the show, unfortunately the person who recorded the show ran out of battery near the end of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', we didn't want to present an incomplete show here due to the rare performance of 'The Impossible Dream' so we decided to splice it and tag the rest of the show on from a second source to complete it.

This release should not be missed as it this digipack contains stunning photos taken during the show and Elvis show in Philadelphia ranks among one of his finest from the 1970's.

Tracks: Also Sprach Zarathustra / That's All Right / I Got A Woman / Love Me Tender / You Don't Have To Say You Love Me / You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' / Polk Salad Annie / Johnny B. Goode / Love Me / Heartbreak Hotel / Blue Suede Shoes / One Night / Hound Dog / How Great Thou Art / Introductions / Lawdy Miss Clawdy / Are You Lonesome Tonight / Bridge Over Troubled Water** / The Impossible Dream* / Suspicious Minds* / Can't Help Falling In Love - Closing Vamp* (** spliced with second source, * second source).

Sold!

A 1975 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham that belonged to the King was sold for €77.000 on the Car and Classic marketplace (U.K.). Presley bought the four-door yellow sedan in 1974 and handed it off to his doctor in 1976. It is believed to be the only car ever registered in Elvis' name, according to the listing.

It’s not the car Presley was most closely associated with - that’s on permanent display at Graceland - but everything is there, and everything is as plush as it was when Elvis jumped behind the wheel in 1974.

The big Caddy isn’t running at the moment, but according to the seller that is due to the fact the car simply hasn’t been used. Some areas of the car are in need of attention, but the seats, trimmed in an outlandish and very period velour, are all in good condition, the original radio is still fitted and the knobs and buttons are all present and correct.
