November 23 - New Vinyl

The Fee-Tone label announced the release of the 7 inch single "My Baby Left Me" / "Blue Moon of Kentucky" with  "Neophobic High Fidelity Stereo Effect" on red and purple vinyl. Both are limited editions of 250 copies and due December 18, 2017.

Product description:
My Baby Left Me is a driving powerhouse rockabilly masterpiece with a real Sun Records vibe to it (produced by Steve Scholes with Elvis on vocals and acoustic guitar, Scotty Moore on electric guitar, Bill Black on bass and D.J. Fontana on drums). Recorded at RCA Studio 1, New York on the 30th of January 1956.

Our flip side Blue Moon Of Kentucky is another rockabilly classic which first appeared as the opposite side to That’s All Right (Sun 209) in 1955 (Elvis’ first single). Blue Moon Of Kentucky was recorded on the 7th of July 1954 at Sun Records (produced by Sam Phillips with Elvis on vocals and acoustic guitar, Scotty Moore on electric guitar and Bill Black on bass).

Both tracks have been painstakingly re-engineered to create a stereo effect sound. The result is a bigger, sharper sound that jumps straight outta the grooves at ya! One reviewer described the process as - “it’s as if a veil has been lifted off the tracks”. Both tracks are taken from the forthcoming album titled ‘Elvis Presley – The 50’s In Stereo’ (mono to stereo re-visited). For best results play this killer double-sider very loud.

November 19 - The King Strikes Back

The Audionics import-label announced a new, comprehensive 10CD project, dedicated to Elvis’ legendary Las Vegas Summer ’74 season entitled "The King Strikes Back". All concerts were already released on the official Follow that Dream and import-releases.

From the press-release:
For the first time ever, all rehearsal and live soundboard recordings are presented in best possible sound quality and in one box! As you know, these recordings were released through the years by various bootleg labels and by the official collectors FTD label, too. Nevertheless, many of these original releases are hard to find nowadays, including several already deleted FTD CDs! For some of these recordings we have used audio tapes (master cassettes) as a source, rather than existing CD releases. We have spent dozens of hours in studio, to restore and enhance them. As usual, every recording was treated individually and restored from scratch, using today's advanced technology to achieve the best possible sound quality for your optimal listening pleasure.

Each disc is placed in individually designed cardboard sleeve and there is a 16-page booklet, full of high quality August/September 1974 photos (including several rare ones) and reproductions of fan reviews, published in the hard-to-find Rex Martin “Elvis News Service Weekly” magazine, back in 1974. These reviews are special, because they were published shortly after the concerts and those memories are immediate and fresh.

This is the first-ever Audionics comprehensive box. It’s a special set which deserves a place in any serious Elvis collection! Audionics is planning new CD releases in 2018, and additionally, this label will be releasing several special vinyl projects! So stay tuned!

November 18 - EPE to Court

The saga of EPE's proposed 6,200-seat venue on its Graceland campus took another turn Wednesday. Officials from EPE Inc. filed a declaratory judgment action asking the Chancery Court of Shelby County to declare that the development of the venue would not violate the non-compete and non-participation covenants in the FedExForum use and operating agreement between the City of Memphis and Memphis Grizzlies.

In its statement, EPE wrote, "It is, and always has been, EPE's position that the FedExForum Use and Operating agreement does not prohibit the City of Memphis and Shelby County from extending tax incentives to support the development of the 6,200-seat venue in the same manner that the city and county regularly extend such incentives to other qualifying commercial enterprises."

The statement goes on to read, "Despite EPE's good faith negotiations and its proposal to substantially change the development and to agree to limitations on the use of the multi-purpose facility, EPE was not able to reach a reasonable business agreement with the City of Memphis and the Memphis Grizzlies."

On Aug. 22, EPE presented its original plans for the concert and event facility to Memphis City Council and asked them to support an increase in the tax increment financing from 50 to 65 percent to fund the venue. The Memphis Commercial Appeal takes a rather negative view saying "EPE takes on Memphis and the Grizzlies with a misguided lawsuit"

It would be one of the biggest cases to go through the Shelby County Medical Examiner's office, but it was one Dan Warlick handled with aplomb, said Dr. Jerry Francisco, his former boss. Warlick was the chief investigator for the medical examiner when on August 16, 1977, rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley died. Shortly thereafter, Warlick would leave to become an attorney. He died on November 16 at his home in Nashville. Warlick was 69.

"Certainly there was a tremendous level of interest worldwide and that always causes a problem because you have to keep up with things," said Francisco, the medical examiner when Presley died.

But Warlick, who worked extensively with law enforcement at Graceland, handled the investigation into the death of one of the world's greatest entertainers with confidence, said Francisco, who has since retired. "Dan never got rattled," he said.

Graceland Excursions

Tour like the king! Elvis Presley’s Graceland now offers expertly-guided, luxury motorcoach tours of major music landmarks and museums as the ideal complement to the Graceland tour experience in Memphis, Tennessee.

Initial tours will include trips to Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Presley’s birthplace, and the Mississippi Delta region -- known as the birthplace of the Blues.  The luxury coach ride to and from each destination will be a big part of the experience, as Graceland tour guides and Archives staff take guests on a fun musical journey, celebrating the music that influenced Elvis Presley, the greatest entertainer of all time. Graceland Excursions will preview with select dates in December 2017 and early January 2018, with an official launch of its regular, weekly schedule beginning January 12, 2018.

These newly-created tours of Tupelo and the Mississippi Delta are designed to trace Elvis Presley’s musical roots, featuring the influences that inspired Elvis and other artists, to begin mixing blues, country, gospel and R&B to create an entirely new sound – dubbed Rock ‘n’ Roll – which was brought to life in Memphis, Tennessee over 60 years ago. Graceland Excursions are available to the general public and available separately from the Graceland attraction tour experience.

Christmas Time

The holidays have officially arrived at Graceland. On Thursday Elvis Presley's home was lit up for all to enjoy. "It really looks like we're going back in time," said Elvis' longtime friend George Klein. "Elvis really loved Christmas. It was his favorite holiday." Klein goes way back and remembered lighting up the  Whitehaven home with Elvis for the very first time in 1957. "We used a broomstick as part of the light switch," he said. Since then the tradition has grown and attracted people from all over the world. The extensive Christmas display at Elvis' home includes hundreds of blue lights along the driveway, a life-size Nativity scene, Santa and his sleigh, and much more.

November 12 - Divorce Papers For Christmas

Divorce papers signed by Elvis Presley and his ex-wife Priscilla have sold for £20,000 at auction. The papers include details of the divorce after the couple, who married in 1967, started living apart in 1972. As part of the settlement, Elvis signed over to Priscilla his 1971 Mercedes Benz, 1969 Cadillac Eldorado, Harley-Davidson motorbike and $100,000.

The papers were sold to a phone bidder from USA at the Henry Aldridge Auctioneers in Devizes. Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said the 12 papers were a "fabulous piece of show business history". The papers, from 15 August 1972, have been signed three times by Elvis and four times by Priscilla.

Mr Aldridge said: "These are exceptional examples of Elvis's signature, being both bold and large. "It is extremely rare to have Elvis sign in his full name, Elvis Aaron Presley, and also Aaron with two AAs, as it was written on his tombstone.

"Each of the 12 pages contains fascinating details and offers the reader a snapshot into the details involved between both parties that only legal documents can give. "This document offers a collector the chance to own something from one of the most important episodes in Elvis's life."
