Known as the King of Nashville, Tony is adored by the mega-artists whose sounds he was instrumental to crafting, the city he's proud to call home, the millions of fans of of his over 100 number 1 singles, and the aspiring musicians he continues to inspire.

The President of MCA Records for nearly two decades and co-founder of Universal South Records, Tony is also referred to as the founder of Americana music, who shook the scene with his edgy signing choices of Steve Earle and Lyle Lovett, before producing a Golden Era of country music from the eighties to the two-thousands, achieving over 100 million in sales.

May 25 - From Camden with Love

The classic Diamond Anniversary Release (DAE) import-release "Old Times They Are Not Forgotten" has been re-issued on blue and red vinyl. These edition comes with an addition CD.

From the press-release:
The first title "Here I Go Again" was a complete sell out and was well recieved by vinyl freaks. To make things not too complicated we have now chosen to release the very first title ever released on DAE “Old Times They Are Not Forgotten”. Obviously it contains the August 30 1976 show. We believe this new updated double album is the best outing of this show till now! And of course the show is included on CD too. This release is very limited and is available in red or blue vinyl presented in a gatefold sleeve.

The Camden Collection

Released are two import box-sets containing the original "Camden" releases simply entitled "The Camden Collection" volumes 1 and 2.

With these stunning new box sets we are celebrating the unique Camden compilation albums, released in the UK between 1975 and 1986.  Although a product of Pickwick International , licensed from RCA Records, these albums are lovingly referred to as Camdens, simply because of the catalogue numbers and the big capital letters "Camden" on the record and cassette labels.

Despite often being dismissed by long terms fans when they were originally released, these albums were the first point of call for younger people getting into Elvis' music. The budget prices, added to the eye-catching covers meant these were albums that found their way into many a home that had never owned an Elvis record.  So, for many, there is a fondness for these releases.

Albums on volume 1: Heartbreak Hotel / The Us Male / The King / Suspicious Minds /Flaming Star / Elvis.
Albums on volume 2: Volume 2: The Rock Hits / It's Now Or Never / Please Don't Stop Loving Me / Are You Lonesome Tonight? / The First Ten Years / The Legend

The albums are packed in 2 beautiful 'clamshell' box sets:
  • Each box set contains 6 legendary camden/pickwick albums
  • Original album packaging has been painstakingly restored (they all look like a miniature version of the original vinyl albums)
  • Original albums tracks !
  • Each box includes a 12 page fully illustrated booklet with
  • Pictures and insightful commentary
  • In true "camden" tradition, each box includes a free elvis ( mini ) poster !
From Elvis With Love

Re-issued on CD is the 1978 compilation "From Elvis with Love". Originally released in September 1978 by RCA Records, on a 2 record set.  Now for the first time on CD, the original "love" tracks, but in rare and hard to find alternate versions.

May 23 - Elvis Guitar Up For Auction

The guitar used by Elvis Presley in the 1963 Golden Globe-nominated musical/comedy film "Girls! Girls! Girls!" will be auctioned by Nate D. Sanders Auctions on May 31, 2018.  Presley played the guitar in the scene in which heserenades Momma, singing ''We'll Be Together.'' The 1962 film was one of three Elvis movies shot in Hawaii. Bidding begins at $32,000.

The Martin 0-17 1944 guitar comes with a letter of authenticity from Presley's wardrobe manager Richard Davis. Davis noted Elvis also used the guitar as a "Movie Prop Guitar" to promote the film.
Davis stated Presley kept the guitar in California and played it at home. When Elvis moved to Memphis in 1968, he asked Davis to drive his Rolls Royce filled with personal belongings, including guitars, back to Graceland. After Presley's death in 1977, Davis and Elvis' father Vernon Presley helped organize the rock star's clothing at Graceland. At that point, Vernon gave Davis the "1944 Martin 0-17 Guitar serial number 87112.''

May 22 - The King Trailer

Forty years after the death of Elvis Presley, two-time Sundance Grand Jury winner Eugene Jarecki’s new film takes the King’s 1963 Rolls-Royce on a musical road trip across America. From Memphis to New York, Las Vegas, and beyond, the journey traces the rise and fall of Elvis as a metaphor for the country he left behind. In this groundbreaking film, Jarecki paints a visionary portrait of the state of the American Dream and a penetrating look at how the hell we got here. A diverse cast of Americans, both famous and non, join the journey. Here is the trailer.

Cancelled

Despite the "Back By Popular Demand" 2018 'Wonder Of You' Australian tour being pared back to only two shows - these have now been cancelled, presumably due to lack of ticket sales. There were only the two shows in Sydney and Melbourne and the dates had already been moved to August 2018, presumably to help link up with the excitement of Elvis Week. Now Cancelled - Despite the best efforts of the Promoter we were not able to rectify the situation ....

May 19 - Elvis Years

A heavily embellished white leather belt worn by Elvis Presley during a performance in November 1972 in Hawaii and gifted to actor and friend Jack Lord has been sold for $354,000. The estimate for this item was $20,000-40,000.

The belt is adorned with faux turquoise, lapis lazuli, and coral, all set in gold-toned metal pieces. The buckle has a dragon-like resemblance, and three dangling brass chains are affixed to the bottom. Presley wore the belt with at least two different ensembles, including his well-known heavily jeweled “Thunderbird.”

It was one of fifty-nine Elvis Presley items sold during Julien's Music Icon's Auction. Other items that gained high bids were a ring given by Elvis to a fab ($100,000) and an 1968 Fender Telecaster Prototype (115.200 dollar).

The Elvis Years

Due for release from Anthem Publishing on May 24, 208 is volume one in a three volume series entitled "The Elvis Years". The first volume is entitled "From Tupelo To Stardom", the second "From fort Hood to Hollywood", due August 23, 2018 and volume 3 is entitled "From Comeback to Final Years". Synopsis:
The Elvis Years is a brand new three-part series that celebrates the life, music and legacy of the one and only Elvis Presley.

For Volume 1 of The Elvis Years, we track the beginnings of Elvis's incredible career: from his birth and humble upbringing in Tupelo, to his pivotal move to Memphis and Sun Records fame. Beyond Sun, we then return to the studio sessions where Elvis made his mighty RCA major label debut.

Further in, we profile Elvis's original band, the Blue Moon Boys: guitarist Scotty Moore, bassist Bill Black and drummer DJ Fontana. Plus we take a look at his harmonious vocal backing quartet The Jordanaires. There's also an in-depth investigation into two of Presley's main collaborators from the period: Sun Records producer and label boss Sam Phillips and prodigious songwriter Otis Blackwell.

Other Volume 1 features include a look at 50s rockabilly Mecca the Louisiana Hayride, Elvis's first pop No. 1 single Heartbreak Hotel, the heralded Million Dollar Quartet session – with Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash – and a sightseeing trip to Presley hot spots in Tupelo.

His first four seminal Hollywood film roles – Loving You, Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock and King Creole – are also given due attention, as are his fascinating connections to the UK. Lastly we feast our eyes on Presley's lavish 50s wardrobe and take a listen to a few of his lesser-spun wonders from the era. So join us as we retrace the King’s footsteps, from Tupelo to Stardom…

50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special

NBC announced a two hour TV  special entitled "The 50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special".

About the show
We all know Elvis Presley as the "King of Rock 'n' Roll," but it was his '68 comeback special on NBC that truly secured his reign. In that one thrilling special, donning iconic black leather and performing some of his most unforgettable hits, Elvis reclaimed his glory and put himself back at the top of the charts. This season, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that epic evening, an all-star group of music's superstars will pay tribute in Nashville, Tennessee, recreating the spectacle - even the staging - of that legendary night of song. In addition to the musical performances, we'll see rare Elvis footage, outtakes and interviews from those involved in the '68 comeback special, including Director Steve Binder. Whether you're a lifelong fan or just getting to know Elvis, this is an event not to be missed.

Production Company: Ken Ehrlich Productions
Executive Producer: Ken Ehrlich ("The Grammy Awards," "Elton John: I'm Still Standing," "A Grammy Salute," "Sinatra 100: An All-Star Grammy Salute").

Saturday Night Fever

The Ragdoll import-release "Saturday Night Fever" has been released. It contains the near complete March 30th dinner show, which was previously released incomplete on ''Live From Las Vegas'' by the lf2 label, however this was a simple copy and paste job from vinyl source, and missed several songs (including "My Boy" and "I'll Remember You"). However the Ragdoll label was able to obtain a new source, which included the near complete show (the tape ran out near the end of ''Hound Dog''). Despite being incomplete the producers were able to get another tape of this show to complete this release, which was the source used for the "The Live Years" 3-LP set by the Astra label, back in the mid 80's, this time finally from tape source and not from a needle-drop. The sound is ambient and very good, the only song left incomplete is ''Can't Help Falling In Love''.

The story behind the watch is that Elvis was sitting in a restaurant when he was approached by a man who said, “nice watch.” Elvis glanced at the man’s watch, a diamond-set Hamilton, and replied, “I like your watch too. Do you want to trade?” It was consigned to auction by the man’s nephew.

May 08 - The Definitive Vinyl Artwork of Elvis Presley

After a wait of over two years, the re-release of the JAT Publishing book "The Definitive Vinyl Artwork of Elvis Presley 1956-1977" is finally due.
JAT Publishing completed the work updating the book and it will go to the printers after the June release of the new book about "Harum Scarum" featuring over 150 unreleased photos from the 1965 movie.

For "The Definitive Vinyl Artwork of Elvis Presley 1956-1977" book, JAT found some newer images and documents and art boards. The book contains most of the original photography for the albums, singles and extended plays released in Elvis Presley's lifetime. Many of the photos are the full gorgeous images as they were originally photographed with many never before seen in their entirety according to the press-release.

May 04 - Bankrupt

The two "Elvis In Concert - The Wonder of You" concerts with Priscilla Presley, large orchestra and Elvis on big screen in Madrid and Barcelona have been cancelled. Originally fans thought it was due to poor ticket-sales, but it appears that the promoter Crazy Music Productions SL is bankrupt. Fans who bought a ticket should be reimbursed for 75% of their ticket-price with the money that is available in the bank account of the company. The remaining percentage is included in the list of debtors and included in the bankruptcy process. The new The Wonder Of You tour will start in Finland on 30 May.
