Description: The year 2017 marked four decades since Elvis' death. Yet his music still topped charts worldwide, and he earned over a dozen new Gold and Platinum awards. Proof that Elvis "never left the building."

This yearbook series returns to the 40th anniversary year of Elvis's death, to preserve his enduring legacy. 2017 saw countless book, movie and music releases, perhaps too many for fans to easily distinguish what's truly worthwhile. Fans enjoyed numerous CD and vinyl releases, spanning Elvis' entire career, from the early SUN Records material on 'A Boy From Tupelo' to the 40th Anniversary Edition of 'Moody Blue'. In between there were themed compilations, Classic Album re-issues on the Follow That Dream collectors label, Mono to Stereo mixes, and numerous concert releases. Many of Elvis' movies were re-issued on DVD or upgraded to Blu-ray.

New books covered virtually every facet of Elvis' life. Music-focused titles ranged from individual songs to complete annotated overviews of his recordings. Film enthusiasts found new books about his movies and documentaries. Authors examined his impact on culture, his relationship with racism and spirituality and places Elvis visited from Germany to Hawaii. Other titles explored his famous Canadian (1957) and Madison Square Garden (1972) performances, his TCB band, his Graceland Mansion, his horses, his iconic jumpsuits and much more.

Beyond these publications, 2017 also saw the opening of the 'Elvis Presley's Memphis' entertainment complex, concert tours and the 'Elvis On Tour' exhibition at London's O2 Arena.

This yearbook preserves all the day-by-day information about every relevant Elvis release, event and milestone from 2017. Every publication is listed, and 55 in-depth reviews by Elvis writers, experts and fans add thoughtful insights from a 2017 perspective. This book comes with a warning: while browsing these pages, you may discover what you missed, and what you want to add to your collection! The expert reviews will offer food for thought, and guide you toward essential additions, while steering you away from disappointing ones. This makes it a must-have book for serious Elvis fans and collectors.

The book can be pre-ordered through the >>> Poplar Tunes webshop.

March 10 - Golden Boy Elvis (Updated)

The first quarterly issue of the German Golden Boy Elvis magazine (#1/2025) will be out mid-february.

The main feature in this issue is FTD's 'The making of King Creole' box-set on Elvis' 4th film. According to the magazine the book blows you away, while the CDs are of less importance. FTD's 'The Last Tours Vol. 2' and 'The Girl happy Sessions' get an in-depth look, so do volume 2 of Randy Star's 'Lost Elvis Songwriter Demos', volume 4 in the 'Elvis Connection' CDs.

Typical German news is the feature on the long overdue memorial plaque that was unveiled in Hirschau with Elvis' cousin Donna Presley as the godmother.

For more information on the magazine, visit the magazine's >>> Golden Boy Elvis website or contact the publisher >>> by email

Aide de Camp fo Priscilla

Priscilla received Tennessee's highest civilian honor, the Colonel, Aide de Camp award, for promoting Memphis music tourism and the legacy of Elvis Presley. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee presented Priscilla with the honor at Tennessee State Capitol building in Nashville. Elvis received the same honor at the Tennessee State Capitol on March 8, 1961 from Tennessee Governor Buford Ellington.

Priscilla who was recognized in the Tennessee General Assembly at the Tennessee State Capitol building by Shelby County lawmakers, took the opportunity to call for state funding to support the relocation of the Smithsonian Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum. The museum has currently raised US$5 million to relocate from the FedEx Forum to the historic Lansky building at 126 Beale Street.

In a statement release on the day's events, Priscilla, says "It's been my joy to promote Elvis and Memphis music across the globe for the past 50 years. One piece of the Tennessee puzzle we need to put in place is the Smithsonian museum on Beale Street. Expanding the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum will ensure that the stories, sounds, and soul of the City of Memphis and its musical legacy continues for future generations."

Senate Democratic Caucus Chair London Lamar, D-Memphis, thanked Priscilla for her "dedication and passion" in a Senate ceremony Monday night. “Her dedication to Memphis music, entertainment, and philanthropy has enriched our state's culutral heritage," Lamar said. Memphis lawmakers at the ceremony repeatedly recognized Priscilla’s efforts to save Graceland and turn it into a lucrative tourist destination.

Elvis Is Still Remembered!

Look who’s reading his favorite new Elvis 2024 yearbook, Jerome "Stump" Monroe, the Sweet Inspirations and Elvis' former drummer!

Well actually that is not so strange, as he was so kind to write the foreword for this edition, sharing his memories, he wrote:

“Elvis used to ask me, “Stump, do you think people will remember me when I’m gone?” I never understood why he asked me that because he was so young and such a big star. I never thought of his not being here, then one day, he was suddenly gone. It’s never been the same since he died. It took me two years to accept that he had actually died. It’s great to see that, after all these years, things like this book still come out. Elvis always wanted to know that he would be remembered, and he is. So thank you to Kees for helping keep his memory alive by writing these yearbooks.

You can read Jerome’s complete foreword in ‘Elvis Day By Day 2024’, the yearbook that pays tribute to Elvis’ legacy, day by day, year by year.

'Elvis Day By Day 2024' contains reviews off all of 2024's main releases, including the last Follow That Dream releases like 'The Girl Happy Sessions', 'The Last Tours Vol. 2', the Making of King Creole' Deluxe box-set,  the 'California Holiday' 2-LP, Gravel Road's 'By Invitation Only' Deluxe box-set and all the other relevant 2024 releases.

Elvis Day By Day 2024 Reviewed

The 2024 edition of 'Elvis Day By Day - The Year In Review' has been out for 2 weeks and the first reactions and reviews on social media, webshops and magazines are positive with 5 star reviews on Amazon stating:

A series of essential books: "It's a book I've been looking forward to. A real reference not just for fans, but for everyone. It's amazing what's going on after all these years. I own every book in this series. They are all an incredible source of information. Great reference books and nothing is forgotten for each year.

It's a titanic job. High quality books. With incredible print quality. Interviews and analysis to better understand the impact of the main outputs. And these analyses are fair and precise and often give us a different perspective and above all makes us want to get them."

Riveting Book full of colossal information: "Like all previous editions of the book, from front cover to back it is an invaluable addition to my collection of Elvis Books".

On the first day of release, the book climbed to the No. 1 spot on Amazon U.S. Pop Culture Encyclopedias best seller list and on the Hot New Releases lists for the categories 'Almanacs & Yearbooks' and 'Pop Culture Encyclopedias'.

From Facebook: "I was very impressed with last years Elvis Day By Day News 2023 book! If you want a book that looks great, is easy to use and captures all the releases and news from 2024 using stunning imagery and a great layout this is a must buy for me."

"This is my annual bible, 480 pages! A must-have! Thumbs up!".

And today Piers Beagley wrote a great review in the Elvis Information Network, stating: "Elvis is still impacting the world we live in. His legacy is truly stunning. To appreciate Elvis’ lasting impact we actually need an “Annual” summary where we can take it all in - and this is what ‘Elvis Day By Day 2024’ provides.

Over the 480 pages there is so much to discuss, lots to debate and always stunning images. Plus some delicious negative reviews. What makes the Elvis world so fascinating 47 years after his death is that there is still so much talk about and so much being released - both good and bad! And always plenty still to investigate and learn. If you are an Elvis collector I think you will truly enjoy this book."

Golden Girls

Elvis Presley’s Graceland announced that the next inductees to the Graceland Legends program will be The Sweet Inspirations.

EPE stated: The Sweet Inspirations provided backing vocals for Aretha Franklin and other R&B greats and had a hit of their own with their signature song ‘Sweet Inspiration’ before they started working with Elvis in 1969. Estelle Brown, Cissy Houston, Sylvia Shemwell, and Myrna Smith were the members during Elvis’ first Las Vegas engagement at the International Hotel. After Houston left the group, the three settled on being a trio. The Sweet Inspirations were Elvis’ female backing vocal group from 1969 to 1977. Their rich F&B gospel-infused harmonies and stage presence delighted Elvis and his audiences. When introducing The Sweet Inspirations, Elvis was known to tell the crowd, “They Sure live up to their name.”

Graceland Legends is designed to honor and recognize the musicians and musical groups who were an integral part of Elvis Presley’s legendary career. In addition to being recognized in a ceremony at Graceland, the honorees will also be added to the Graceland Legends exhibit at Graceland.

Past Graceland Legends inductees including James Burton, Ronnie Tutt, Glen Hardin, Jerry Scheff, Scotty Moore, Bill Black, DJ Fontana, David Briggs, Norbert Putnam, Charlie McCoy, and The Jordanaires.

The induction ceremony will be part of the Conversations on Elvis in January at Graceland during Elvis' Birthday Celebration.

We look forward to recognizing their contribution to Elvis musical legacy with fans from around the world.

Press Release: Elvis Day by Day 2024 - The Year in Review

The book you’ve been waiting for all year long, 'Elvis Day by Day 2024 - The Year in Review', will be released in January 2025.

In 1954, Elvis came crashing through the doors of popular music, and he hasn’t stopped rocking since.”

This new Elvis yearbook is the proof of that! Packed into a colorful 450 pages is all the relevant news of what happened in the Elvis world, it is a complete overview, guide, and reference book of Elvis from all corners of the world in 2024.

It features all the news, including a complete overview of the “new”:

  • Music, in Mono and Stereo, on CD and vinyl at 33, 45, and even 78 RPM.
  • Books and magazines.
  • Movies and TV specials as released on DVD, Blu-ray, and streaming services.
  • PLUS “Everything else Elvis” that mattered, skipping the nonsense.

Highlights include:

  • The true story about Dewey Phillips playing the ‘That’s All Right’ acetate on WHBQ in July 1954.
  • The scam to “steal” Graceland.
  • All the Sony, Follow That Dream, and bootleg releases, including the major deluxe box sets, books, and more.
  • Over 70 in-depth reviews, articles by well-known Elvis experts, and interviews with key people in the Elvis world.
  • The Mono to Stereo releases of Elvis’ SUN recordings, greatest hits, soundtracks, and live recordings.
  • An in-depth look at Lisa Marie Presley’s memoir as completed by her daughter Riley Keough.
  • All the stunning colored and “liquid” vinyl releases.
  • A complete chart and awards overview (a new addition this year!)
  • And, of course, some of the oddball Elvis releases that make collecting fun!

From the “young man with the big beat,” it is a small step to Elvis’ former drummer, Jerome “Stump” Monroe, who provided the beat behind the King as part of the Elvis Presley Show in the seventies and wrote the foreword for this year’s edition. Seventy years after the release of Elvis’ debut single, “the beat goes on,” and that’s all right!

Praise for earlier volumes in the Elvis Day by Day series:

This annual “Bible for Elvis fans” provides essential reading for every Elvis fan and a valuable keepsake for years to come. And don’t just take our word for it, this is what fans are saying:

I thought I knew what was happening in the Elvis world, but I found so much news that I completely missed!

If you consider yourself a serious fan, you ought to have these books.”
These are books that won’t gather dust on your shelf—you’ll find yourself consulting them all the time. Unmissable!

Fascinating, interesting, enlightening! Need I say more?

My only criticism is that it has left me with a massive shopping list, and I have the 2024 edition at the top of that list already!

As Colonel Parker would say, there is “something for everyone” or perhaps we should say, “too much for any fan.” Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just starting your journey into the King’s world, this yearbook is the definitive guide to everything Elvis.

The 'Elvis Day by Day 2024 - The Year in Review' yearbook is available for pre-order now at >>> www.PoplarTunes.com. Shipping is planned for January 2025.

And while you're there, check the volumes on 2018 to 2023 to complete your collection! The books are also available from >>> Amazon (associate link).

Elvis Day By Day Paperback Book Sale

The past 5 years I wrote 6 'Elvis Day By Day - The Year In Review' yearbooks. The reactions from fans prove that Elvis' legacy is just as it is relevant 46 years later.

Elvis author PÃ¥l Granlund stated at the introduction of the 2023 edition: “It’s a great book, I can tell you, I have them all”.

Guylain Jean from France wrote: "The 2023 Bible for Elvis fans!!! 2023!"

From a 5-star review on Amazon on the 2022 edition: The fifth volume of this magnificent series. I am impressed with the thoroughness and detail of this book. A titanic job. Thanks to the author of this book.

Elvis left us over 45 years ago and it's amazing what we can still find out about him. This book is a bit of a bible or testament devoted to everything that came out only during the year 2022. In fact, I don't just recommend this book, but the whole series of books. These are essential books. Many thanks to the author and I am already looking forward to his next publication.

All 6 volume are currently on sale on Amazon, go to >>> Amazon to pick up your copy or complete your collection! And while you're shopping for yearbooks, you may want to take a look at the new 'Elvis, Hero of the Comic Books' book which I designed.

Writer, poet and reviewer Bill Shute said: This series is the definitive print edition of every significant release and event in the Elvis world on a daily basis for the year in question. Highly recommended.

Reader Richard van Slingerland said about the 2023 edition of 'Elvis Day by Day': "If you consider yourself a serious fan, you ought to have these books". And Marc-Antoine Comtois wrapped it up nicely: "Fascinating, interesting, enlightening! Need I say more?".

Audio engineer Anthony Stuchbury from the U.K. wrote: If there was just one word I could use to describe this, it would be 'encyclopedic', because that exactly what it is!

Piers Beagley from the Elvis Information Network posted: 'Elvis Day By Day 2023' is a massive book: 480 pages, 1.7kg and it looks great. I opened it for a quick look-through and it was over an hour later that my girlfriend had to ask me, "What are you looking at?" (I guess I was ignoring my gardening chores!)

The fact that Kees can be bothered to put together such an amazing index for such a timely book is very impressive. and I had forgotten that so much stuff had come out this past 12 months (good, and very bad).

Six titles are available, covering "everything Elvis Presley" from 2018 until 2023. All the news and dozens of reviews by Elvis experts, authors and fans. For reviews of the books, just click on the year you need in the topmenu of this blog, or visit the review page on my >>> Poplar Tunes shop.

Adam Greenaway wrote a nice review of the 'Elvis Day By Day 2023' yearbook on the Elvis Collectors group on Facebook:

"Here's a 480 page book I thought I would give a try and I must say it's a pleasurable read. It's nice sometimes to have a paperback book you can just pick up when you feel like it and have a good read of a few pages.

It's well presented (great cover image and use of the colours) colourful throughout, easy to read (helps my PC worn eyes) and full of the Elvis events and releases with reviews from 2023. All the major releases are featured in more detail - Great Job!"

Thanks for the kind words Adam, much appreciated!
