October 31 - Elvis Ranks 4th On Forbes List

Michael Jackson tops Forbes' list of the highest-paid dead celebrities for the fifth year in a row with earnings of $75 million. His postmortem empire is going strong, boosted by the Halloween special and new album Scream joining a list of ventures including a Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas and a stake in the EMI music publishing catalogue.

Golf legend Arnold Palmer claims the No. 2 spot with $40 million. Barely a year after his death, more than 400 stores still sell Palmer-branded apparel in Asia, and AriZona Beverages produces 400 million cans of its Arnold Palmer line annually. Peanuts creator Charles Schulz ranks third with income of $38 million—MetLife recently retired Snoopy and Charlie Brown from its ad campaigns, but the cartoonist’s contract does not expire until 2019.

Elvis Presley finishes fourth with $35 million, up from last year’s $27 million sum thanks to the new $45 million Elvis Presley’s Memphis entertainment complex and recently-opened hotel The Guesthouse at Graceland. Bob Marley rounds out the top five with $23 million, boosted by sustainability-focused House of Marley audio products and the Marley Beverage Co.

1. Michael Jackson ($75 million)
2. Arnold Palmer ($40 million)
3. Charles Schulz ($38 million)
4. Elvis Presley ($35 million)
5. Bob Marley ($23 million)

October 25 - The Birth And Dead of a Legend

Legendary artist Fats Domino has died age 89, according to local reports from New Orleans. The American singer, pianist and recording artist pioneered rock and roll and inspired countless artists, including Elvis Presley and The Beatles. Local TV station WWL-TV cited his daughter as the person to confirm his death, saying he died peacefully surrounded by family.

“The Fat Man,” his 1949 first hit single, was one of the earliest examples of rock ‘n’ roll. He followed that success with “Ain’t It a Shame,” “Blueberry Hill,” “I’m Walkin” and dozens of other hits whose boogie-woogie piano style and rhythmic singing appealed to black and white listeners alike.

“Domino shouted out ghetto-accented staccato accusations about sad separations ringing like cannonades across a country divided by segregation,” author Rick Coleman wrote in “Blue Monday: Fats Domino and the Lost Dawn of Rock ‘n’ Roll” published in 2006.

Elvis Presley covered and performed his hits "Blueberry Hill", "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "One Night Of Sin".

Domino’s singles reached the top 40 on Billboard magazine’s pop charts three dozen times between 1952 and 1963. He ended up with about two dozen gold records, awarded for sales of at least a million copies, and more than 65 million recordings sold.

Birth Of A Legend

Due for release on December 14, 2017 from the Waxlove label is the LP "Elvis Presley: Birth Of A Legend: The Sun Singles 1955 - 1956".

Description:
This collection is where it all began, at 706 Union Ave in Memphis, Tennessee, otherwise known as Sam Phillips' legendary Sun Studios. Famously Elvis Presley walked in the door there in 1953 to record an acetate for his mother, Phillips took down his name for future reference/possible label signing and the rest, as they say, is history. This LP consists of 20 of the most legendary performances in rockabilly/country/rock and roll history. An absolutely essential collection and possibly the greatest recordings of the King's storied 20+ year career.

Il Re Del Rock 'n' Roll

Due for release on November 1, 2017 from the Audrey label is a vinyl re-issue of the original 1956 Italian EP "Il Re Del Rock 'n' Roll". This release is limited to 100 copies on orange/red marbled vinyl in shaped cover.

October 22 - Standing In The Rain

The Ampex import-label announced the release of ''Standing In The Rain'' containing the June 24, 1973 3 PM show as recorded live at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY.

From the press-release:

On this day, Elvis is performing his last show in a series of four sold-out concerts at this venue, much like he did just over a year earlier 32 miles away in Manhattan at Madison Square Garden. The audience was primed beyond measure as Elvis had not performed in the New York-tri state area since the previous year.

The setlists at these shows were similar to the recently aired ''Aloha From Hawaii'' TV Special, with several variations, most notably a classic rock 'n roll medley, How Great Thou Art, and I'm Leavin'.  This show was previously released on the MxF title ''Uniondale Hysteria, Final Day'' from a much inferior and different tape.  We at Ampex found a brand new source, the sound of this recording replicates exactly what the fans in the audience heard that night. It was recorded on high quality BASF tape, and has tremendous dynamic range considering the limitations of amateur equipment in those days.

It captures the sound of Elvis's show that evening in clear and brilliant sound... and we advise you to play this loud and proud, and you will feel like you are right there in attendance. This release is mastered directly from the original first generation audience recorded cassette, which has been carefully preserved in its vintage hard plastic case for 40 years. The CD will also feature a 16 page booklet, including rare photos of Elvis in Uniondale, and liner notes!

Details "Suppose - The Home Recordings Vol. 2":
A companion album to "Suppose - The Home Recordings" (released by RCA/BMG in 1999). This second album contains 22 tracks; all home recordings. Most of them were recorded at various locations in Los Angeles and Germany. Some were recorded in Memphis and a few in other places. Of these 22 tracks, 12 are officially previously unreleased and 2 tracks are very hard to find. For example: the stereo version of '500 Miles'. The version of 'Suppose' on this album was only available on the "Celluloid Rock" boxset from 1998. A great new compilation album with more of the best Elvis' homerecordings, with new edits and were possible, improved sound! A great addition to the '99 RCA/BMG album, in the same style, but now with recordings from the 50's, 60's and 70's... Even if you have all the bootlegs you'll certainly enjoy this great new compilation, and if you don't have all the bootlegs, you'll also find enough new material to enjoy! This collection shares a privilege enjoyed by few: at home with Elvis!

October 13 - No Deluxe Box on the Charts (Updated)

According to the Belgian UEPS fan club Sony / RCA UK pulled the previously announced deluxe box LP/ CD set for the "Christmas" cooperation between Elvis Presley and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Charts

The new "Christmas" album by Elvis Presley and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is a new entry at #22 on the Official UK Album chart with 3,572 copies sold.

The comment by sales specialist Alan Jones:

Following the template of 2015's If I Can Dream and 2016's The Wonder Of You – both No.1's – the latest Elvis Presley offering comprises newly constructed recordings blending archive vocals with freshly coined orchestral stylings from The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This time however, the album – whose title appears to be Elvis Christmas, although the OCC have gone with Christmas With Elvis & The RPO – has a seasonal twist, with the late king's advent audio adventures getting bespoke treatments. It is, of course, still more than 10 weeks to Christmas, so the album can be excused its comparatively low debut position of No.22 (3,572 sales). Several other Christmas albums – including offerings from Gwen Stefani and Fantasia – also dropped last week but Presley's is the only one to chart thus far.
