May 31 - Elvis Rocks The Garden, Vegas, Tahoe and the Studio!

Originally announced early 2021, the Straight Arrow import record label will finally release the 3-CD set 'Elvis Rocks The Garden'.

Publicity stated: In 2012 we have released the great June 9th Madison Square Garden NYC concert (CD 'Left a Good Job in The City'). This classic CD has been sold out for many years. Now we have restored this recording from scratch.

In 2020 we obtained two quality tapes of other NYC concerts from June 10th Evening Show and June 11th Afternoon Show. We have decided to release all three shows in one deluxe 3-CD set.

We are fully aware that the June 10th Evening Show was released several times officially by RCA from the professional multi-track tapes. Nevertheless, we have found an alternative source - an excellent audience-recorded tape! It brings you a whole new listening experience! The incredible audience reaction to every song will blow you away!

The June 11th Afternoonshow was released in 2010 from an inferior source. Once again, we have found an excellent audience-provided alternative. Unfortunately the last three songs were not recorded by the same person. We have used a bit less-quality secondary source to make the show complete. Both the June 10th E/S and 11th A/S were recorded by the same person, using a reel-to-reel tape deck instead of usual the cassette recorder. These recordings are new to your ears - they were not in the circulation yet! If you have enjoyed our "Left a Good Job in The City" CD, we believe that you will love this one as well.

Presented in the usual Straight Arrow fashion with the top notch digipack including photos from the three NYC shows and the Daily News press review.

May 25 - Elvis Movie Premiere (Updated)

Director Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’ movie premieres at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

The film stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley, Hollywood veteran actor Tom Hanks as Butler’s manager Colonel Tom Parker.

Luhrmann attended the premiere along with Butler, Hanks and Olivia DeJonge, who stars in the movie as Priscilla Presley. The movie rocked, rolled and left the audience all shook up.

The film brings Luhrmann back to Cannes where he made history by being the only director to have two of his films - "Moulin Rouge!" (2001) and "The Great Gatsby" (2013) - as the opening feature at the festival. His 1992 title "Strictly Ballroom" had competed in the Un Certain Regard category at the movie gala's 45th edition.

Baz Luhrmann’s 'Elvis' strutted its way up the Cannes Film Festival red carpet last night for the film’s world premiere which was greeted by explosive applause inside the Palais.
The crowd got to its feet during the end credits, clapping in rhythm before the lights came up, and remained standing for 10 minutes to mark a 2022 record so far at the festival.

Amid shouts of “Bravo!” from the crowd, an emotional Luhrmann told the audience inside the Lumière Theatre he’d had a “bit of an epiphany” because “30 years ago my wife and I made a little film called Strictly Ballroom and the one exhibitor who had given him one screen said, “That is the worst film I have ever seen!"

So we went up the coast and I thought my film was never really going to work out when I got a phone-call from a Frenchman, who offered me a chance with a screening at the Cannes Film Festival. Eventually we showed the film in this Palais cinema … and my life has never been the same."

Luhrmann noted about making ELVIS, “I really believed that we would come to Cannes, but then the Covid came and the film was shut down and it was never going to happen, but for the bravery of Tom Hanks to come back and the bravery of this cast and this crew to go on through Covid and finish this film. And we are back in Cannes. And to see these streets so full of people who love movies of every form of life, every kind of movie, says so much more about what this place means and what it means to be back in the cinema. For that we are eternally grateful, Cannes… All I can say is, merci beaucoup, merci beaucoup.”

The BBC collected the highlights from the first reviews. Go to >>> BBC site for the article

The film will be released by Warner Bros. in North America on June 24, 2022 and in the rest of the world from June 22, 2022.

May 21 - Elvis, The Colonel, Priscilla and Austin

The Bauer Media Group announced the June 03, 2022 release of the 96-page book 'Elvis and The Colonel: The Complete Story'.

Description: Besides his father and a few close friends, only one other person was by Elvis’ side for almost his entire career, his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. If Elvis stood at the front of the stage, “The Colonel” was a mysterious figure lurking somewhere off to the side.

The relationship between Elvis and the Colonel is a focus of the new movie Elvis from director and screenwriter Baz Luhrmann. Starring two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as Parker and Austin Butler as Elvis, the film explores the relationship between these two iconic figures more deeply than any other Elvis biopic ever produced. This special collector's edition magazine tells the story of what really happened.

Review Elvis UK Cover Story

Andy Pendl reviewed the new 'Elvis UK Cover Story - The Ultimate Guide To Elvis Presley’s British EP & LP Sleeves 1956-1977by John Townson and Gordon Minto

John Townson an Gordon Minto did it again. After their first digital project - presenting 'Elvis UK3' as e-book using the flip technology - they digitized their first book ‘Elvis UK’, which was out of print for a long time before. While the second edition of their British discography, ‘Elvis UK2’, is still available in print, they have just unveiled a new addition to their existing body of work.

Is this another release that any collector or any British Elvis fan should " add" to their collection and reference library?

Design

For those who are not familiar with e-books or have not seen the flip technology on displays, three main advantages over the printed format are a good reason to buy it.

First, the search function allows you to find individual words or numbers very quickly. Second, the book can be updated at any time. Not only are any errors quickly fixed, but additional facts and bonus material can be added, as the authors have previously done with ‘Elvis UK’.

Third, the digital format is cost-effective, as shipping costs are often disproportionately high.

Selected pages can be printed, either to a PDF-file or directly to a printer. If you print all 286 pages (including the front and back covers), you will get a PDF-file with a size of about 564 MB, which will be saved on your device.

Content

Should anyone think that there would be only simple scans of front and back covers, they will not only be surprised, but delighted. Those who know the two experienced authors and have certain expectations will not be disappointed, although some would miss re-issues and cover-variations.

Following the introduction explaining their thoughts and reasons for this decision, 20 chapters offer exactly what the keywords announce: Adverts / Back Cover Photographs / Corporate Details / Credits / Cut-Outs / For UK Fans Only / Front Cover Fact File / Hidden History / Inserts / Laminated / Non-Standard LP Covers / Printing Companies / Record Shops / Sleeve Manufacture / Sleeve Notes / Spines / Stereo Records / Stickers / Titles / Winning Sleeve.

With this wealth of information and detail, it is particularly striking how meticulously researched it was. For example they do not simply show back cover pictures, but also the original photos from which they were made, along with descriptions.

By calling the failed cover of the ‘Elvis (Fool)’ album the “winning sleeve” and detailing what mistakes were made they express their criticism in a humorous way.

Conclusion

Without grumbling that there is no print edition and that I would prefer cover pics in bigger size, it’s an awesome work containing plenty of information and astonishing facts no collector could pass!

Knowing these guys, I imagine they won’t stop researching and may offer additional facts, bonus pages, or another volume ...

This is simply an awesome work no collector could pass!

May 20 - The Elvis Presley Bootleg Connection

The German Bear Family record label announced the release of volume 3 in the 'The Elvis Presley Connection' series. It features "36 Roots And Covers Of Elvis Presley" and comes with a 36-page booklet. Total playing time approx. 75 minutes.

Third compilation on Bear Family Records® offering original recordings that inspired Elvis, plus rare cover versions of famous Elvis tunes - including some from the UK - and quite a few on CD for the first time.
This edition focuses on songs Elvis recorded between 1962 and '66.
In addition to commercial releases, the CD album provides several demo recordings by Don Robertson and Otis Blackwell, among others.

Cover versions or the original version of songs from Elvis movies, like a Spanish version of Guadalajara from 1949 - sung by Elvis in the 1963 movie 'Acapulco'.
The full color booklet includes rare photos and memorabilia as well as liner notes by German Presley expert Helmut Radermacher!

The third part of our Elvis story
Where did Elvis Presley take his inspirations from? That' s the main question behind the concept for this now third compilation. Elvis' music, his live performances, his Hollywood movies: All of this was unique and influenced generations of musicians. Surprisingly, his influence on the music world of the 1960s hardly diminished, despite the Beatles and Rolling Stones. At the same time, Elvis Presley himself was influenced by other musicians, as this compilation shows! The third edition is dedicated to his creative period from 1962 to 1966, cover versions and originals in chronological order, as Elvis recorded them at the time.

Rarities, demos, film songs
Some of the often rare recordings appear for the first time on CD! We found rare versions of Elvis songs by Rikki Henderson, Les Carle or Wayne Harris on British and American low budget labels. Famous colleagues from R&B (The Coasters, The Clovers, LaVern Baker and Clyde McPhatter), Country Music (Marty Robbins, The Browns) and Rock 'n' Roll (Jerry Lee Lewis, Terry Stafford, The Chavis Brothers and the Elvis-like vocal wonder Ral Donner) are also featured. In addition to rare cover versions by the likes of Skip Arne and The Dukes, a number of rare demos are included that were recorded exclusively for Elvis at the time and are accordingly revealing. Some of them were written explicitly for the soundtracks of his films and recorded by Don Robertson or Otis Blackwell, a.o.

The CD includes a 36-page full color booklet with many rare pictures and illustrations, as well as an accompanying essay for each song, written by German Elvis Presley expert Helmut Radermacher.

This comprehensive deluxe set contains 4 soundboard  recordings recorded during Elvis his first Vegas season of 1971.  The first Vegas season of 1971 started on January 26 and finished February 23.

During these shows Elvis sang some of the tracks from the just released  “Elvis Country” album. Examples are  “Make The World Go Away” ”There Goes My Everything” and “Snowbird”.

Another example of one of the highlights is the only known live version of the (back in the day)  new song ”only believe”. All shows are remastered and presented in mono just as they were recorded.
