October 31 - Go West (With A broken Leg), For A Ride To Remember

Dr. Nick is at the hospital with a broken hip. He got it at his 83rd. birthday.

Elvis Goes West

On the FECC forum a new CD was announced "Elvis Goes West" featuring tracks written by his former friend and bodyguard Red West; "That’s Someone You Never Forget", "You’ll Be Gone", "If Everyday Was Like Christmas", "Holly Leaves And Christmas Trees“, "Separate Ways" and "If You Talk In Your Sleep".

A Ride To Remember

Billy Stanley announced a new DVD on his time with his "steph-brother" Elvis Presley; "A Ride To Remember".

The Complete Confusion

On the Japan "The Complete Elvis" site the video advert is different to the one shown on the American site. The main stand out difference with this video is right near the end where the narrator tells us that only 2,500 numbered copies will ever be produced worldwide.

Originally the set was said to have 1000 copies (in the first run). The package is presented with a standard, it is not clear if that is included in the Japanese Edition.

Michael Jackson's Tops Elvis On Forbes Dead Celebrity Earnings List

The late King of Pop made more money over the past year than any other musician or actor, dead or alive. He earned more than the other 12 deceased stars on the list combined.

Elvis Presley was listed at #2 (#4 last year). "The King of Rock 'n' Roll's estate pulled down $60 million in the 12-month period, thanks to Graceland admissions and a heavily hyped Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas. The estate's portfolio of more than 200 licensing and merchandise deals got a nice boost from the late star's 75th birthday celebration as well."

To place on this year's list, a deceased celebrity needed to earn at least $5 million between October 1, 2009, and October 1, 2010.

The Complete Collection Delayed

Finally got an email update on why the boxset is slightly delayed. The publisher Kramerica Industries had a mishap at the printers. They didn't figure in the actual size of the book with the "fold-out" legs, so when putting the package together they found the book wouldn't fit into the custom box. So the first 200 or so books had to be fixed, as in the legs were removed.

Elvis Jukebox

Due for release sometime in 2010 in Canada was the CD "Jukebox". But prior to it's release the CD was cancelled.

October 20 - Dee "Presley"

Written in 1991 but rejected by publishers, Dee Presley's 'The Intimate Life and Death of Elvis Presley' is now released via E-Books.

In this book Dee Presley claims, among other things, that Elvis had an incestuous relationship with his mother Gladys, that Elvis had a homosexual affair with his friend Nick Adams, and that Elvis committed suicide because he had been suffering from bone-marrow cancer.

The content of the manuscript is well known as a summary of these accusations was published in the National Enquirer in 1993.

James F. Neal died

James F. Neal, a lawyer who found success in nationally prominent cases on both sides of the legal battlefield, prosecuting Jimmy Hoffa, the Watergate conspirators and others, died on Thursday in Nashville. He was 81.

The cause was complications of esophageal cancer, said his wife, Dianne Ferrell Neal.

One of Mr. Neal’s other prominent cases included a successful defense, in 1981, of Dr. George Nichopoulos, who had been accused of overprescribing addictive drugs to Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and others.

Phillips To Be Inducted Into Radio Hall Of Fame

Of all the accolades the late Sam Phillips received during his long and illustrious career, his youngest son said the one he would likely appreciate the most is his upcoming induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame.

Sam Phillips is known worldwide as the “Father of Rock 'n' Roll” for discovering and recording legendary artists including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and Howlin' Wolf.

But his start in the music business began in his hometown of Florence as a disc jockey for WLAY. Sam Phillips died July 30, 2003, at the age of 80.

Based in Chicago, the National Radio Hall of Fame and Museum was created to recognize persons living or dead who have made significant contributions to radio, said Bruce Dumont, the hall of fame's chairman.

Jack “Cowboy” Clement, Memphis singer/songwriter/music and film producer, will present the award to Jerry Phillips and his older brother, Knox Phillips, during the ceremony.

Welcome Home Chilean Miner & Elvis Fan Edison Peña

Chilean miner Edison Peña was brought to safety on Wednesday, October 13, after 69 days of being trapped underground. Peña is a self-described major Elvis Presley fan and the 34 year-old asked for Elvis music to be sent into the mine so the trapped workers could have sing-alongs and keep their spirits up.

Graceland would like to welcome home Edison Peña, and along with the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau, has extended a special invitation for him and a loved one to visit Elvis' home in Memphis.

Graceland Supports Red Cross

Elvis Presley's Graceland in Memphis, TN will officially begin the holiday season by "flipping the switch" for the annual lighting celebration on November 19, with the traditional lights and decorations on the 13.8 acre mansion property. The extensive display includes hundreds of blue lights along the driveway, a life-size Nativity scene, Santa and his sleigh and much more originally displayed at Graceland by Elvis and the Presley family.

The event this year will also support the American Red Cross, with the Bloodmobile on site as part of an awareness campaign to encourage the public to donate blood during the holidays, a historically critical time for blood inventory. During his lifetime, Elvis supported the Red Cross and frequently donated blood while in the Army.

Highlighting the 2010 lighting ceremony will be Lee DeWyze, winner of the ninth season of American Idol, who will join with a Red Cross blood recipient and "flip the switch" to officially light the Graceland property and kick off the holiday festivities. The interiors of Graceland mansion will also be decked in Elvis' Christmas decor. Included will be his traditional red velvet drapes as well as Presley family Christmas artifacts on display around several trees throughout the home. Santa will be available for pictures with the kids throughout the evening's festivities. The public is welcome to attend the free lighting event. Regular paid tours of Graceland will operate the day of the lighting ceremony from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
