July 28 - Tracklisting From Tupelo

The tracklisting of 'Elvis: A Boy From Tupelo' from the Follow That Dream Collectors label was finally available.
The surprise on the set is the acetate version of 'Little Mama', a song recorded in 1954 and owned by collector Sherif Hanna. The quality is inferior to any Sun release, but it's history nonetheless. Elvis probably picked the tune up from the Clovers who had a hit with their version.
The recently discovered live recording of 'I Forgot To emember To Forget' is not part of the tracklisting.

July 25 - Autumn Gold In The Summer

The Audionics importlabel announced the release of the double CD 'Autumn Gold' containing a complete show, recorded on October 1, 1974, in Southbend, Indiana.
As a bonus the label included a 'large chunk' of the famous Hollywood rehearsals from August 1974 in Binaural stereo. This rehearsal was previously released on the Follow That Dream Collectors label but now fans can hear it without the clippings done by the FTD team.

From the press-release:

Audionics will release new 2-CD set in early August: "Autumn Gold." It will include the complete South Bend, Indiana show from October 1st, 1974 and a generous chunk of the famous August 16, 1974 RCA Hollywood rehearsal in a totally different sound - binaural stereo, as it was originally recorded. The South Bend date was originally issued in 2003 by Follow That Dream, but "Killing Me Softly With His Song" and some stage dialogue were omitted, and the closing vamp was clipped.
Though Elvis’ personal problems were affecting some of his shows around this time, he seemed to be in fine fettle in South Bend. Overall, this show presents a solid and pleasing performance by Elvis, and though it has been released before, we can now enjoy a more complete and -- most importantly - sonically superior recording of this concert!
The August 16, 1974 rehearsal surfaced on bootleg compact disc in 1995, then officially fourteen years later on Follow That Dream. For the first time, Audionics presents these songs as originally recorded, in binaural stereo; and the sound is better than ever before. Unfortunately, the entire tape is unavailable, but all the essential performances are here. It is a real pleasure to listen tracks like "Softly As I Leave You" and "Twelfth Of Never" in binaural form.
"Autumn Gold" is presented in a great-looking 2-disc digipak with a 20-page booklet filled with photographs taken that night in South Bend and at additional live shows and candids from March, August and October 1974.
All these recordings have been carefully engineered to be presented in the best possible sound.

Larry Geller To Host Unusual Elvis Film

Larry Geller is planning to do a very special movie on Elvis. Here's what he just wrote us: "As many of you know, I’m going to Memphis for another big Elvis Week in August. I thought about the many times I travelled between Memphis and Los Angeles on old Route 66 with Elvis over the years. So many memories – so many experiences shared. I told my son Kiara that I would love to take that journey one more time, and he mentioned it to some filmmaker friends of his. They came up with the idea to come along with me and make a film of the trip, stopping at places that were meaningful to Elvis and me. I must say, I loved it! Route 66 is part of America’s history, and our travels along that road are part of Elvis’ history. "

"Always On My Mind" Featured in New Commercial in Italy

Elvis’ love song, "Always on My Mind" is featured in a series of new spots for ENEL Energy Services, Italy’s largest power company. Designed by Saatchi&Saatchi, the commercials were shot by director Benito Montorio and produced by Filmmaster Productions.

Elvis Presley recorded "Always on My Mind" on March 29, 1972, and it was released as the B-side of the "Separate Ways" single. It reached Gold status in the U.S for sales of over half a million copies and was a double sided hit reaching number 16 on Billboard magazine's Hot Country Singles chart in November 1972.

July 13 - New Elvis Recording Discovered

On YouTube a previously unreleased Elvis Presley live-recording from the Louisiana Hayride was posted by user 'amberola1b'. On the FECC forum the conclusion was that it was probably from October 01, 1955. Recorded on an early silvertone "wire" recording machine we initially hear Buzz Busby and the Bayou Boys before Horace Logan introduces Elvis, Scotty and Bill and their "modern-day type" new single, 'I Forgot To Remember To Forget'. According to postings on the Too Much Monkey Business and For Elvis CD Collector's forums the recording will NOT be part of the 'Young Man From Tupelo' box set on Elvis SUN years.

The reaction from Ernst Jorgensen:

"Wow – it’s unbelievably beautiful. I’m still trying to recover from the shock
Ernst"

Ernst Jorgensen's reaction on the question if it will be on the 'Boy From Tupelo' set:
"Well, it's not-it just turned up on UTUBE today.Ernst"

From FECC:
Horce Logan makes the introduction and notes that song has been riding the charts for several weeks. What may help us date it is the reference to Buzz Busby and the Bayou Boys.
I checked Keith Finns site and he has several advertisements from the Hayride. An advertisement for the October 1, 1955 show notes that the Buzz Busby and his band were being introduced on that show. The band and Elvis are also noted for apperances on shows on 10/8/55, 11/5/55, 11/12/55 and 11/26/55. Elvis also played the Hayride on 10/29/55 and 11/19/55 (which was a remote broadcast), The 11/19/55 is interesting because according to KF, I Forgot to Rember to Forget may have been played on the show and it is also the show where Elvis played Rock Around the Clock and a poor tape recording supposedly exits.

July 07 - An Idol From Venus ...

The Venus import label released a third volume in their 'Unedited Masters' series entitled 'Unedited Masters; Nashville 1971'.

From the press-release:
Out now from Venus is the next volume of Unedited Masters; Nashville 1971. This time you’ll be treated to 22 tracks you’ve never heard that way before. All tracks are mastered and mixed completely different to what you know, you’ll hear them in their full length and (as usual) the sound quality is flabbergasting.
As with the previous volumes, you’ll again have the opportunity to hear Elvis at his best. Gone are the awful disproportional overdubs and gone is the muffled sound. All that remains is Elvis and his musicians having a ball in the studio, recording some great songs.
The greatest surprise must be “Amazing Grace” (take 2). Yes, we know that it has been released before. So we urge you to listen to that version first and then listen to our “blues version”, wanna bet you won’t believe this is the same take? We are very proud we can present this version to you, but we feel it’s a shame it hasn’t been released decades ago!
So get ready for some big surprises and don’t spoil it for yourself by listening on your computer. This CD should be played on a real sound system, as loud as your neighbors allow.
Tracklisting:
1 Help Me Make It Through The Night unedited master 3:01 2 Until It's Time For You To Go unedited O.V. master 4:28 3 Fools Rush In (Where Angels Fear To Tread) unedited master 3:01 4 It's Still Here unedited 4:45 5 I Will Be True unedited 2:47 6 I'm Leavin' unedited O.V. master 4:06 7 We Can Make The Morning unedited overdubbed master 4:11 8 It's Only Love unedited O.V. master 3:00 9 Love Me Love The Life I Lead unedited O.V. master 3:33 10 Until It's Time For You To Go (remake) unedited alternate master 3:54 11 Put Your Hand In The Hand unedited master 3:31 12 The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face O.V. master - different mix 3:54 13 That's What You Get ( For Loving Me ) unedited master 2:24 14 The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face duet with Ginger Holiday 3:53 15 Early Mornin' Rain Take 11 - unedited 3:47 16 Amazing Grace Take 2 - no backing vocals 3:29 17 Miracle Of The Rosary unedited undubbed master 1:49 18 I Want, I Need You, I Love You (parts)/ That's What You Get (For Loving Me) unknown take 2:48

The Graceland 1976 Masters

Over the years, terms like ’digitally remastered’ and ’improved sound’ have become virtually meaningless, due to their overuse by the records labels, whose product more often than not does not really deliver in the audio department. Enter Retro Audio, a sound expert who has developed a remarkable new technique for improving the audio on vintage recordings. Retro Audio is not some guy fiddling around on a computer, he is the real deal, and some of his masterings currently in circulation in the Elvis world are creating quite a furore. Fans have expressed great surprise at what they are hearing, and have wondered how it is possible that Retro Audio was able to improve on even the best sources so far in such a significant way. Hearing his audio work is like suddenly seeing a b&w photo in color; there is much more dept in the recording, more definition, Elvis’ voice reveals more details… the results are nothing less than startling. Retro Audio has now turned his attention to Elvis’ most misunderstood work, the Graceland sessions from 1976, and this is arguably his finest audio work so far. Get ready to hear these recordings in a whole new light, as this remarkable procedure has breathed new life into these masters. Hear Elvis’ voice as you have never heard him before, it’s like you can almost reach out and touch him. Get surprised by details you never heard before. If you buy only one Elvis CD this summer, then make sure that it’s this one, because this audiophile release WILL surprise you. Presented in a deluxe 2-wing digipack with relevant photos and session details, this is one release that you simply must hear!
