Blue Moon Single

Anthony Stuchbury gave an update on the upcoming 'Blue Moon' single.

He posted: Sometime in the next couple of weeks RDM should receive the 45 rpm vinyls from the pressing plant, but as you can see here, the CD’s have already arrived. They won’t be making any announcements just yet until everything is in stock, but I’m going to give you a little more information right here.

The standard 45 will be on clear vinyl and the CD will contain the same two tracks.

There will also be an exclusive version available at ‘Bennies 50’s Store’ in The Netherlands. Their 45 will be on pink vinyl and their CD will contain a bonus track of ‘Blue Moon’ which is an acappella version.

You may like to know that the version of ‘Good Rockin’ Tonight’ on this release is the perfect stereo master that I previewed at Memphis Mansion back at the beginning of October. It doesn’t get any better than this. ;)

November 17 - Book Of The Year

Peter Guralnick's 'The Colonel and the King' has made the 2025 100 Must-Read Books by TIME.

The magazine wrote:
Elvis Presley has been gone for 48 years now, but he hasn’t really died. The second half of the 20th century took shape around his almost mystical youthful charisma, and later around his ghost. But Elvis wouldn’t have been Elvis without Colonel Tom Parker, the Dutch-born entrepreneur who managed Presley’s career from 1955 until 1976, just one year before the performer’s death.

Peter Guralnick has already given us the definitive Elvis biography with his two-volume classic, 'Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley' and 'Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley', published in the ’90s. Consider 'The Colonel and the King: Tom Parker, Elvis Presley, and the Partnership That Rocked the World' - a sympathetic, surprising, and assiduously researched book - a coda to that essential work.

Parker was a shrewd wheeler-dealer, a flimflammer of the highest order; he’s commonly seen as a villain in Elvis’ story. But Guralnick argues, convincingly, that Parker’s role was more complex than that. These are two men whose fates were entwined. To love one of them also means reckoning with the truth of the other.

Uncut magazine went even further and made Guralnick's book the No. 1 book of 2025. Go to the Uncut website to read >>> the complete review of 'The Colonel and the King'.

You can buy 'The Colonel and the King' on >>> Amazon (associate link).

Review Elvis Day By Day 2017

Perhaps not Uncut's "book of the Year," but I'm proud of the great review Piers Beagley wrote on my 'Elvis Day By Day 2017 - The Year In Review' book.

The review opened with: "Kees Mouwen's very first "'Elvis Day By Day' Special" was his year-book compiling "everything Elvis" from 2019. In his introduction that very first year he wrote that "perhaps this is the start of a tradition" - and indeed it was and with every year-book since then being bigger and brighter.

Not only do these annuals show fans’ fascination with Elvis Presley but also how his legacy is still growing even after all these years.

He concluded: "While I understand that this book might not be for everybody -  after all some fans are purely interested in the 'newest never-seen-before product' being released this week - I find it fascinating looking through what was being released back in 2017 and the Elvis highlights from the year.

Not only did this 2017-year-in-review book provided some very satisfying reading but it also got me spinning some Elvis CDs and vinyl that I haven't played in years. And also had me looking through some of those glorious Elvis books that I have left gathering dust on my shelves for far too long.

And perhaps best of all, using Kees’ list of top quality Elvis products that were released back in 2017 I have tracked down and ordered some older items that I missed out on from eBay. In the end, it’s all about the joy of being an Elvis fan - there’s always more to read and discover."

Thank you Piers, much appreciated! For the full review, please visit >>> The Elvis Information Network

The book is available from >>> the Poplar Tunes webshop and >>> Amazon

November 13 - Elvis On Vinyl

The Dutch Music On Vinyl re-issue record label delivered the third batch of Elvis Presley titles  of their 15-title re-issue program. The albums released are 'Recorded Live On Stage in Memphis', 'Elvis 2nd To None' and 'Loving You'.

The next batch, due in January 2026, has already been announced:  'Elvis Back In Memphis', 'Good Times' and 'On Stage - February 1970'.

Publicity for 'Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis' stated:
Following the artistic success of his 1973 Stax sessions and the global phenomenon of the 'Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite' album and broadcast the same year, Elvis opened 1974 with a 15-city tour routed to end in Memphis and a state-of-the-art concert recording.

When originally released as a single LP, 'Elvis Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis' reached #1 on the Country charts and featured 'How Great Thou Art,' the track that would bring Elvis his third Grammy win. This luxury quadruple vinyl reissue contains a previously unreleased test run of the entire show recorded in front of a live audience at the Richmond Coliseum a few days before the legendary concert. The remarkable "test run" performance was recorded in mono, drenched in the reverb Elvis preferred, and provides new insight into the magic of Elvis.

As a special added bonus for Elvis aficionados, we’ve included five intimate tracks (three of them previously unreleased) cut at the RCA Studios in Hollywood on August 16, 1974. Originally intended as reference recordings for an upcoming Las Vegas engagement, the performances which include "Down In The Alley," "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues," "Softly As I Leave You," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "The Twelfth Of Never" provide a rare fly-on-the-wall glimpse into Elvis' consummate backstage artistry as he prepares these songs for concert. To top it off, the pack includes a 20-page booklet featuring rare photos, previously unseen memorabilia, new liner notes, press clips and more.

Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on yellow/orange marble vinyl and 2,000 individually numbered copies on purple colored vinyl. Both versions  include a 20-page booklet.

Publicity for '2nd To None' stated:
'Elvis 2nd to None' is the successor to ELV1S 30 #1 Hits, an ambitious double LP compilation collecting the King’s many, many chart-topping songs. He had so many however, that a second one was very welcome. This time around, the lens was broadened to include more than just the number one hits resulting in a varied and worthy companion to the first compilation. Two notable inclusions are the previously unreleased recording “I'm a Roustabout” and a breakbeat remix of 'Rubberneckin’' by Paul Oakenfold in same vein as Junkie XL’s version of “A Little Less Conversation”.

'Elvis 2nd to None' is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on smokey marbled vinyl and 2,000 individually numbered copies on gold colored vinyl.

Publicity for 'Loving You' stated: 'Loving You' from 1957 was Elvis Presley’s first soundtrack and accompanied the eponymous film that follows a delivery man who is discovered by a music publicist and a country–western musician who wants to promote the talented newcomer. This was Presley’s first major starring role. The fact that only the tracks on the A-side appeared in the movie couldn’t spoil the fun for the fans, as the LP contained hits such as “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear” reaching #1 in the U.S., some covers and some lesser-known deep cuts. It’s not without reason that this album reached Certified Gold status. The Midas touch, so to speak.

'Loving You' is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on blue marble vinyl and 2,000 individually numbered copies on yellow colored vinyl.

Congratulations!

Ginger Alden Leyser, Elvis' last girlfriend, celebrated het 69th birthday. Congratulations!

November 11 - Spring Break In Las Vegas and Georgia

The Millbranch import record label announced the late 2025 release of the double LP 'Spring Break In Las Vegas' featuring the March 22nd, 1975 Midnight performance as recorded at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Publicity stated: Right in time for the end of this year Millbranch Music continues with its high quality vinyl releases, made for the real fan and limited as usual: 200 copies made on black vinyl and on transparent violet vinyl.

'Spring Break In Las Vegas' is a beautiful 2-LP set with printed innersleeves, containing intensive liner notes, and containing a newly restored soundboard recording of the March 22nd, 1975 Midnight show performance at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel! And even more material from Elvis ́ shows in March of 1975!

This concert was released for the first time on the legendary 'Profile' CD-Box-Set in 1996 (Volume 2) and immediately found its way to the “Top Ten” of highly appreciated 1970 ́s Elvis concerts, mainly because of its perfect song selection, which fitted Elvis so well in spring of 1975, but also because it is easy to recognize, that Elvis had a great time on stage and did sing great and with passion this evening.

The recording is now sourced from the original digital master, and Millbranch Music presents a newly remastered Stereo-version which reveals details never heard before!

March 22nd, 1975: It was the week before Easter, the night of the nationwide “Easter Seals Telethon”, broadcast coast to coast across America. While most of the country sat in front of their televisions, Elvis Presley was on stage at the Las Vegas Hilton. That same evening, he quietly donated $5,000 to the telethon’s cause for children with disabilities. His backing singers, The Sweet Inspirations, had just appeared live on the program. During the show, Elvis joked about the telethon and about the other charity, the March of Dimes, and even about the long-awaited tax rebate checks everyone expected that week. ‘I’m still waitin’ on my rebate’. he laughed. ‘Didn’t get mine, had to pay for breakfast’. Yet the millionaire who claimed to get nothing gave instead, turning humor into generosity, and a Las Vegas night into a moment of Easter grace.

Mastered with soul and experience

The mastering of this LP was entrusted to Planet of Sound Mastering, led by Petrushka, an expert with over 25 years of experience in both live and studio audio. With a background as a musician, producer, and live engineer, her journey began as an intern at Abbey Road Studios in London, where she was mentored during a full-day mastering session. It was there she first heard about the legendary fifteen-year learning curve to mastering, a truth she now acknowledges through decades of hands-on experience.

During a U.S. tour with her former band in the 1990s, she also worked briefly on a project at Sony Studios in New York, adding to her understanding of how emotion, performance, and recording come together in a live context.

"My style of mastering is all about feeling, you should get the sense you were there," says Petrushka. "This is not about polishing everything to perfection, but about preserving what made it human and alive."

Having grown through years of practical refinement - from theory to instinct - her approach reflects a deep sensitivity to how a performance breathes. For this release, every channel was carefully balanced, with special attention given to vocal depth and instrumental clarity.

Available on vinyl in two Collector's Editions: classic black vinyl and transparent violet vinyl. Each version comes with full-color printed inner sleeves, featuring rare photos and liner notes. A beautiful tribute to one of Elvis’s best performances, at least of 1975!

Rockin’ in Georgia

The SR import record label announced the late October 2025 release of the double LP set 'Rockin’ in Georgia'.

Publicity stated: An ambitious project aimed at highlighting Elvis's rock side in the 1970s. We decided to begin, in our humble opinion, with the best rocking single: 'Promised Land'.

This new SR release will feature a first LP dedicated to an analysis of the song, tracing its development from the studio to the stage. At the same time, the second disc presents the first show of the April 1975 tour - surely one of the best of the year - recorded in Macon, Georgia, on April 24, 1975.

The first vinyl is cut at 45 RPM, allowing listeners to enjoy an incredibly sharp sound while exploring the evolution of the song. The second vinyl presents a soundboard recording of the Macon show. It was previously released on CD, but this is the first time on vinyl, remastered from the Analog Mono source to deliver a vastly superior sound.

The glossy gatefold edition will be accompanied by a bonus 30x30 cm glossy photo. A must-have!

SR intends to present Elvis at the peak of his abilities. His December 1973 recording of 'Promised Land,' combined with the April 1975 Macon show, undoubtedly captures the best moments of both years, showing him at the top of his game with a great studio session and a great live performance. As the title suggests, 'Rockin’ in Georgia' showcases Elvis with a renewed rock attitude.

Quoting Cash Box: “Elvis really hits home.” Without doubt, his take on Chuck Berry confirms Elvis’ ever-present ability to transform a song into something unique. The Macon concert reveals a rediscovered Elvis who, though overweight, faces the stage with a revitalized rock spirit.

The show is strong, built around a solid set of recently recorded songs, well-performed. Elvis’s range remains impressive, but here his rocking side is finally dominant. The rocking trilogy - 1972’s 'Burning Love', 1974’s 'Promised Land', and his later single 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E - together with the autobiographical 'My Boy', are without doubt the highlights of the concert.

This SR Special Product comes in a Deluxe 300 Gr. sleeve containing the double 150 Gr. vinyl and a bonus card. To make it a true collector’s item, only 300 copies will be pressed, available in two different vinyl color variations: 150 copies on smoked yellow vinyl and 150 copies on smoked blue colored vinyl, both with their own 30 x 30 CM glossy art card.

From Here to the Great Unknown

Penguin Random House announced the November 11, 2025 re-release of Lisa Marie Presley's posthumous biography 'From Here to the Great Unknown', written by Lisa Marie Presley, completed by her daughter Riley Keough.

Publicity stated: The new edition will not only receive a completely new cover, but will also include a personal afterword in which Riley reflects on her experiences surrounding the book and her search for a sign that her mother was at peace with the publication.

The edition is being reissued by Penguin Random House, which describes the book as a "heartwarming and honest reflection on life, love and loss within one of America's most iconic families". A book with a special origin story 'From Here to the Great Unknown' was originally published in October 2024, several months after Riley Keough had completed her mother's unfinished memoirs. Lisa Marie had begun writing her life story in 2022 and had asked her daughter to help complete the project.

When Lisa Marie unexpectedly passed away in early 2023, Riley decided to keep her promise. Using hours of recordings in which Lisa Marie spoke candidly about her childhood in Graceland, her parents Elvis and Priscilla, her marriage to Michael Jackson, her struggle with addiction, and the loss of her son Benjamin Keough, Riley completed the book as her mother had intended it: raw, honest and human. Riley described her goal at the time as follows: "What my mother wanted was to go beyond the headlines and the myths, and show who she really was. I hope I have been able to honor her in that."

The new cover shows an intimate photo of Lisa Marie and a young Riley, putting the bond between mother and daughter at the centre. In the added afterword, Riley writes about her emotional process while completing the book and about the signs she received from her mother, sometimes unexpectedly. The memoirs were previously praised by, among others, The New York Times and The Guardian for their authenticity and touching honesty. They were also named a #1 National Bestseller, New York Times Bestseller and Oprah's Book Club. A moving tribute In From Here to the Great Unknown, the voices of mother and daughter alternate — a unique duet of memory and processing. The book forms a tribute to Lisa Marie's turbulent life and to the love between mother and daughter.

Review - Elvis UK Cover Story

Around five-plus years ago, John Townson and Gordon Minto published various titles as a digital flipbook. The reason was simple economics, the sheer volume of material they had collected for their 'Elvis UK' projects would make it (too) expensive to publish a traditional paper book for private publishers in a niche market.

And while the economics sounded logical, and the digital flipbook functionality worked very well, readers, including this one, still preferred a physical copy. Fortunately the authors found a way to publish affordable paperback editions of their recent work and started to re-publish their digital work on paper. With the release of 'Elvis UK - Cover Story' the last digital book transitioned from a modern e-book (back) to a physical paperback.

Design

Readers familiar with the 'Elvis UK' books know what to expect regarding the structured way these authors present their information. This book follows the same format, but where the previous books were text heavy - John and Gordon love "typing away" on their keyboards, going the extra mile in their research and explaining everything in detail - this book is almost fifty percent text and graphics. Looking at the subtitle 'The ultimate Guide To Elvis Presley's British EP and LP Sleeves 1956 - 1977', that is only logical.

The thick paper and full-color presentation of the content adds to the general impression that you're holding a quality book in your hands. What I especially enjoyed were the many original photographs of the (cropped) pictures we know from the covers in our collections.

Added to that are several non-cover illustrations, like Elvis waiting between the scenes of 'Clambake' (page 202). The overall black design with the now well-known 'Elvis UK' logo fits in nicely with the other books in this series in your library.

Content

We collectors are a strange breed, using Google, Discogs, eBay and other digital outlets each day to expand our collection, but for a quality catalog or encyclopedic publication we don't want a Wikipedia-clone, no we want to hold a real book, even if it offers exactly the same content as the digital equivalent.

This book can in no way be compared to the old cover art books by Paul Dowling - who doesn't own a copy of his 'The Ultimate Cover Book' from 1996 - or the German 'Elvis Record Covers' book which offered primarily pictures of record sleeves. If you were lucky, titles like this featured a release from an exotic country, but those books never offered the complete story. This is where the work of these two authors distinguishes itself.

This book expands on the previous work by these two authors, this time examining the various aspects of the vinyl UK cover-art. They are companions to the 'Elvis UK' discography books. This books adds the context that Tunzi's back cover-art book from earlier this year omitted.

I do hope the collectors of UK releases realize just how lucky they are, that John Townson and Gordon Minto present everything there is to know about their releases in such meticulous detail.

Following the introduction explaining their thoughts and reasons for this decision, the 20 chapters in this volume offer everything there is to know and discover "about and behind" the covers of the records in our collections: adverts, back cover photographs, corporate details, credits, cut-outs, for UK fans only, front cover fact file, hidden history, inserts, laminated, non-standard LP covers, printing companies, record shops, sleeve manufacture, sleeve notes, spines, stereo records, stickers, titles and of course the "winning sleeve".

Reading this book, you learn how much there is to discover on each of these cover elements, most we probably take for granted, each time we hold a record in our hands, not always realizing that almost every element is there for a reason. This book points that out, in meticulous detail. But thanks to the engaging writing-style, this isn't a book 'for Elvis LP nerds only'.

To quote the most famous Dutch football player, Johan Cruijff: "You won't see it until you understand it", and that is exactly what we get. The authors did their research, and present you with the facts and illustrations to back them up, but they also offer the opportunity to discover it yourself.

The chapter about the sleeve-notes illustrates this nicely. Some readers may think they are just "marketing blurb," but next to the tracklisting, that is what many of us read first picking up an album. In this book the authors offer us the differences in these texts for the various pressings and countries of origin.

The same goes for the credits; you would expect the people who contributed to an album would get the same respect and recognition on each (original) release. But it appears that more credit is passed along in the States than on the British isles. Overall, the comparisons are made between the U.K. and U.S. releases, this way we learn where the UK releases differ from the US releases, which is probably the starting point for most collectors.

Nice graphic examples include the four photos from 'Paradise Hawaiian Style' on the back-cover of the 'Clambake' soundtrack, the use of Elvis' head from a photoshoot for 'Girl Happy' and pasting it on the picture for 'Frankie and Johnny' for the album sleeve. Something no-one discovered for about 40 years until Roger Semon stumbled upon the original photograph. Presented together, you see the differences.

The authors traced the back-picture of the 1970 re-issue of 'Elvis' Christmas Album' back to the original photograph from the 1968 'ELVIS TV Special' and even show how many degrees it was tilted. Nerdy but fun detective work.

The cover art is not shown in page-filling pictures, this may be a surprise to some readers, but in each chapter, the relevant element is superimposed, once again, when pointed out to you, you know where to look. The "production dates" on some of the 'Strictly Elvis' Extended Play are presented almost complete. I can only imagine how much research has gone into this.

Here you also see that this book complements and expands on other books in the 'Elvis UK' series. In a real sense, this book is an adjunct / reference source to the other volumes offering details into things many people may be wholly unaware of.

Next to the almost scientific approach to record sleeves, the authors express their criticism in humorous ways. Not only pointing out humorous (as another word for "stupid") mistakes by RCA or the Colonel, but also adding some fun elements themselves. I really like the picture of Elvis giving "the bird" to the design of the 1973 Camden 'Separate Ways' LP. And the "winning sleeve" shows that the authors are no fools :-)).

One of the joys of this book is the obvious love and enjoyment that the authors have for Elvis' recorded work - but at the same time they show the right amount of humor and delight in the many stupid mistakes that RCA and The Colonel decided to foist on UK's general public.

Conclusion

I can continue to highlight interesting elements from the book, or discoveries I made, but this is the kind of body of work that collectors can buy blindly to make their own discoveries and educate themselves. Townson and Minto provided all the elements.

This physical edition confirmed for me once more that there really is a difference between browsing and reading. And the latter is exactly what this physical version offers, allowing you to really take it all in. Combined with the high quality research and structured presentation, these books belong in each Elvis (UK) book library.

It is not a book you'll read cover-to-cover, but a scholarly reference that - with the help of headmasters Townson and Minto - will educate you, chapter by chapter. And for around UK£40, this encyclopedic discography offers real value for money.

Note: The authors stated that the digital version will now be deleted from the back catalogue, perhaps a good reason to return to an old fashioned paper edition (meant in the best possible sense).
