September 20 - My Wish Came True In Rhode Island

Three new audience-recorded concert releases were announced by the Straight Arrow import-label; "Ruble In Rhode Island", "My Wish Came True" and "There's A Sweet Spirit In This Place".

From the press-release - Rumble In Rhode Island: Musical Chairs at The King's Lair:

Our first release is titled “Rumble In Rhode Island: Musical Chairs at The King’s Lair”. This is Straight Arrow’s very first release from Elvis' June/July 1974 tour and the Providence concert is easily one of the best of the tour!

The Straight Arrow team is always looking for rare, unknown or seemingly lost recordings. Once again, the labels researchers were successful - the Providence, June 22nd, 1974 3pm is a completely new show, even for die-hard Elvis fans. It has never been in circulation - in any form! (note: there is CDR with a so-called Providence, June 22, 1974 Afternoon show in circulation, but this one is wrongly dated recording, in fact this is the evening show).

Our CD is taken directly from an original audience recorded mastertape source. It was recorded by the same guy who taped those other Providence concerts on June 26, 1976 (afternoon) and the May 23rd, 1977 shows, which we released in 2011 („Matinee Majesty“ and „Funny How Time Slips Away“, both hard to find CDs now). The sound quality is very good for an off-line recording in a big auditorium. Highlights include a pounding 'Big Boss Man', and a truly dynamite 'Trying To Get To You'. 'Help Me' is sung with great warmth and sincerity.

This release is presented in a de-luxe 6-panel digipak. Unfortunately, only very few useful Providence June 22, 1974 3pm photos were available, and other shots taken during June/July 1974 tour have been used.

Tracklist01. Introduction: Also Sprach Zarathustra - 02. C. C. Rider - 03. I Got A Woman / Amen - 04. Love Me - 05. Tryin' To Get To You - 06. All Shook Up - 07. Love Me Tender - 08. Hound Dog - 09. Fever - 10. Polk Salad Annie - 11. Why Me Lord - 12. Suspicious Minds - 13. Introductions of singers, musicians, orchestra - 14. I Can't Stop Loving You - 15. Help Me - 16. An American Trilogy - 17. Let Me Be There (with reprise) - 18. Funny How Time Slips Away - 19. Big Boss Man - 20. (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear / Don't Be Cruel - 21. Can't Help Falling In Love - 22. Closing Vamp / Announcements.

From the press-release - My Wish Came True:

Our second release is titled „My Wish Came True“. It was the 1st tour of 1977 and in spite of his unhealthy look, Elvis was in solid voice - especially near the end of the tour. February 20 is one of best shows of the tour and it marked the first time that Elvis attempted his recent single „Moody Blue“.

Our release has been taken directly from a 1st generation copy of an original audience recorded master cassette tape, as recorded by Claude Baker (aka Crazy Canuck), who passed away in September 2016. Claude attended, and recorded, all of Elvis' shows during the February tour of 1977.
Portions of the Charlotte concert were previously released from a soundboard tape on the official 'Follow That Dream' label, but this show has never been available on CD in its entirety before. Note: This is the very last audience-recorded show from the February 1977 tour that is still unreleased. The sound quality is very good. There are highlights a-plenty, including a soulful 'You Gave Me A Mountain', strong versions of 'My Way' and 'How Great Thou Art', and a truly gorgeous 'Unchained Melody'.

As usual, this release is presented in a de-luxe 6-panel digipak, with a collection of photos taken in Charlotte, February 20th, 1977 and two local press reviews. With special thanks to our dear friend, the late Bob Heis.

Tracklist01. Introduction: Also Sprach Zarathustra - 02. C. C. Rider - 03. I Got A Woman / Amen - 04. Love Me - 05. Fairytale - 06. You Gave Me A Mountain - 07. Jailhouse Rock - 08. O Sole Mio (Sherrill Nielsen) / It's Now Or Never - 09. Little Sister - 10. (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel - 11. My Way - 12. Moody Blue (excerpt) - 13. How Great Thou Art - 14. Introductions of singers, musicians, orchestra - 15. Early Mornin' Rain - 16. What'd I Say - 17. Johnny B. Goode - 18. Drum Solo (Ronnie Tutt) - 19. Bass Solo #1 (Blues - Jerry Scheff) - 20. Bass Solo #2 (Battle Of New Orleans - Jerry Scheff) - 21. Piano Solo (Tony Brown) - 22. Love Letters - 23. School Day - 24. Hurt (with reprise) - 25. Hound Dog - 26. My Wish Came True (excerpt) - 27. Unchained Melody (with false start) - 28. Can't Help Falling In Love - 29. Closing Vamp / Announcements.

From the press-release - There's A Sweet Spirit In This Place

Our 3rd CD in this batch is somewhat special. Originally we planned only the two CDs above. But just weeks ago we were suddenly able to obtain this very interesting recording in excellent sound - and complete. We are aware of the fact that there is a so-called May 4th, 1976 D/S in circulation, but it presents only half of the show in average sound. It was even spliced with about 30 minutes of May 2nd, 1976 D/S! What we are releasing now is the real McCoy, folks!

So now for the first time ever - in excellent audience recorded sound, and complete from beginning to the end! The show is a true delight - Elvis is in a relaxed mood, singing remarkably well... Best show and best sound of the season!

This release is presented in a de-luxe 6-panel digipak with a collection of photos taken in Lake Tahoe, May 1976 as well as an original pre-season promotional article.

Tracklist: 01. Introduction: Also Sprach Zarathustra - 02. C. C. Rider - 03. I Got A Woman / Amen - 04. Love Me - 05. If You Love Me Let Me Know - 06. You Gave Me A Mountain - 07. All Shook Up - 08. (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear / Don't Be Cruel - 09. Tryin' To Get To You (with reprise) - 10. My Way - 11. Polk Salad Annie - 12. Introductions of singers, musicians, orchestra - 13. Early Morning Rain (instrumental) - 14. What'd I Say - 15. Drum Solo - (Ronnie Tutt) - 16. Bass Solo (Jerry Scheff) - 17. Piano Solo (Tony Brown) - 18. Electric Piano & Clavinet Solo (Lady Madonna - David Briggs) - 19. School Day - 20. I'll Remember You - 21. Hurt #1 - 22. Hurt #2 - 23. Hound Dog - 24. Hawaiian Wedding Song - 25. How Great Thou Art - 26. Sweet Sweet Spirit (J. D. Sumner and The Stamps) - 27. It's Now Or Never - 28. Can't Help Falling In Love - 29. Closing Vamp.

Elvis SUN Singlet

The Finnish Fan Club has produced another softcover book(let); "SUN Singlet". 55 pages written in Finnish. In "Elvis SUN Singlet" each SUN session is covered with notes about the tracks recorded and either attempted or scheduled for recording.

The booklet, perhaps contoversially, includes discussion of a recording session on 26 June 1954 at which Elvis, Scotty and Bill were to record tracks including the obscure I Don’t Hurt Anymore, Billy Eckstine hit I Apologize, the legendary Rag Mop, and the Dean Martin classic, That’s Amore. The narrative notes that "no recording tape" exists for the session.

The booklet features both sides of each of Elvis’ five legendary SUN singles in full color. There are also numerous rare images of a fresh-faced, young Elvis from the period, including him “live” on stage at various venues across the South. Some of the stand-out photos are Dewey Phillips at his DJ desk at WHBQ in Memphis, a long shot of the front of a pre Memphis Recording Service/SUN Studio building and color images of Elvis' Memphis Recording Service accounts.

Shreveport Photographer Jack Barham Died

He may not be a household name but Shreveport photographer Jack Barham documented some of Elvis' most important moments as he headed for stardom.
Jack Barham, chief photographer for the Shreveport Journal died Friday aged 92.
Often, Barham became personal friends with celebrities after photographing them, and those friendships lasted throughout their lives.
When a young singer named Elvis Presley made several appearances on KWKH’s popular radio show, The Louisiana Hayride, Barham was there to photograph him.

The two became friends, and Jack often would tell stories of the young Elvis to young reporters as he developed photos in his lab at the back of the Shreveport Journal newsroom.

Update from Juan Luis:

"I am not endorsing anyone or any thing. If I sign something, it would be a waiver to Sony/FTD. I am not making money off of this or endorsing anything outside FTD/Sony (that is if they need it etc). I hope that is very clear. Someone here with connections please let all the Elvis news sites know."

September 12 - Elvis And The Beatles on Blu-Ray

A new book by Trina Young entitled "Elvis and The Beatles" is due September 2018. The E-book was released September 12th. the paperback due out late September 2018. Her first book "Elvis : Behind The Legend" was released in 2015.

From the press-release:
Music fans know about the historic meeting in 1965 between Elvis Presley and The Beatles. However, most mistakenly believe that was the only connection between the two biggest rock and roll acts of all time.

After that meeting (and even before), there were many positive ways that The Beatles and Elvis Presley connected personally and professionally, and at the very least, had empathy for each other. However, on the surface, it looked like The Beatles and Elvis couldn’t be farther apart.

In her new book, Elvis And The Beatles: Love and Rivalry Between the Two Biggest Acts of the 20th Century, Trina Young explores the the year-to-year evolution of the careers of both The King of Rock and Roll and The Fab Four simultaneously while debunking false stereotypes. The book uncovers how surprisingly similar the careers of Elvis and The Beatles were, and the multitude of ways that their personal and professional lives intersected.

Fascinating revelations include:
* Why The Beatles loved Colonel Parker
* The truth about the jam session between Elvis and The Beatles
* Why The Beatles were banned in Memphis
* Elvis vs. The Beatles: Who dissed who first?
* The friendship between Brian Epstein and Colonel Parker
* How The Beatles almost recorded in Memphis
* Which Beatle wanted to be Elvis’ producer
* Why The Beatles did not understand Elvis Presley’s musical passions
* How Colonel Parker helped The Beatles
* Why Elvis was not on the Sgt. Pepper cover
* Muhammad Ali’s link to both
* The secret reporter present when Elvis met The Beatles
* Which Beatle was Presley’s favorite
* How Elvis inspired Sgt. Pepper
* Singer Sophie Tucker’s connection to both
* Presley’s spiritual quest started before The Beatles
* Why Elvis got more to perform on The Ed Sullivan Show
* Which Beatles songs Elvis sang
* How The Beatles inspired Elvis; and
* Who was bigger: Elvis or The Beatles?

By comparing and contrasting the parallel lives, careers and tragedies of Elvis Presley and The Beatles, this book explores like never before the surprising relationship between the two biggest superstars of the last century.

Loving You Blu-Ray

Due for release from Redwind Productions January 15, 2019 is a Blu-Ray re-issue of the classic “Loving You”. According to the press-release this release has been meticulously restored from a $K DPX scan, working on the original film elements. It has been digitally remastered in full 1080p format.

September 11 - Early Days Book Bootlegs

The ElvisOne label announced the release of the two CDs "The Bad Nauheim Tapes Part 1 and 2". This announcement comes less than two days after theses recordings were shared on the Phoenix Forum.

From the press-release:
These days, it’s almost a miracle when something new turns up, especially when it’s from Elvis’ finest years. Two hours’ worth of homerecordings from 1959 sounds too good to be true, and yet here it is.

These remarkable recordings were made while Elvis lived in Bad Nauheim, Germany. Listening to these recordings, it’s clear that he is having a good time with his pals, but the keen listener will also note that he is mapping out his musical future.

Gospel music was always his first love, so naturally that’s well represented here. Most notable are several stabs at ‘He Knows Just What I Need’, and it’s not unlikely that the idea to record it at some point was born here. Same with ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’, a song that would be a million seller for him one year later.

There’s some clowning around by all involved (most notably a goofy Lamar Fike reading the news), but what stands out most from these recordings is Elvis’ commitment to his music, his level of ambition and his determination to master several of these songs. What you hear on these significant recordings is an artist who knew that he had to reinvent himself in order to sustain a successful career. These private recordings offer a fascinating insight into the artist redefining his art at a crucial point in his career, and as such, this is essential listening for the Elvis fan & scholar.

Only a small part from these tapes have been released before, but the bulk of it is unreleased – almost three hours of Elvis at home, relaxed, doing what he loved most – making music.

ElvisOne is proud to be able to release these recordings as a 2 + 1 CD set, with rare photos from te timeframe, background notes and detailed track info. Available now!

From Cover to Vinyl – The Artistry of Elvis Bootlegs

Due soon is the book "From Cover to Vinyl – The Artistry of Elvis Bootlegs".

From the press-release:
When Bootleg Elvis appeared in 2012, it sold out almost immediately, and became an instant favorite of Presley collectors all over the world, most calling it the "Bootleg Bible”. Since then, additional rare bootleg titles have been discovered, not to mention many unexpected variations of some classic albums.

So … it seemed to be time for a new and updated look at this world. Whereas Bootleg Elvis mainly relied on text to tell the story, this new edition chooses to focus on photographs. Using the 2012 classic as a reference point, we decided to feature scans of every cover, label, piece of vinyl and insert for you. This will make it easy to identify each and every pressing and variation.

We also decided to split the original book into two volumes. In the first, every known bootleg 7 inch and 10 inch record will be noted on 300+ pages, with more than 1,600 color pictures, cross-references to Bootleg Elvis, and totaling perhaps 400 titles in all!

The second volume will cover all the wonderful 12 inch releases and is planned for an early 2019 release. Please contact your local dealer to ensure your copy of this very limited release!

This is exact how it appeared on the tapes, remastered for your listening pleasure but uncut! So expect some microphone overload or volume changes throughout the tape. These tapes "uncut" is how real collectors need to have it in their collection.

This three CD set will be released in a deluxe fold out longbox.

Gold Vinyl

Swinging Into The Action

To be released soon by the SR import-label is "Swinging Into The Action" with focus on Elvis’ April and June 1972 tour. It features recordings from Albuquerque NM April 19, 1972 and the Milwaukee WI, June 14, 1972 performances. Both the shows are previously unreleased taken directly from a first generation tape.

From the press-release:
The SR attitude is to present Elvis at the peak of his possibility and without any doubt Elvis’ first two Tours in 1972 present him at the top of his possibilities, delivering maybe shows shorter than the previous November 1971 tour, but still solid. If Rock is an attitude the man still has it. The performances are terrific, rough and sharp.

Here are presented two unreleased shows from the April and June tour. Both the show are very similar, the track list is minimized and the shows are practically identical, with some minor exception like the rare "The First Time Ever Saw Your Face" included in the final Show of Albuquerque..

We are happy and proud of the result we hope you can enjoy too, in spite of the limitation of the audience recording, we are talking of a big Arena shows not of the intimate Las Vegas showroom. The shows are fantastic and the track listing is solid, Elvis is delivering us a sort of greatest hits. Starting from his latest single Until It’s Time For You To Go then with the Anthem An American Trilogy passing the best single of 1969, Suspicious Minds without forgetting the glorious fifties with Heartbreak Hotel and Hound Dog…. All the songs are very well performed.

This new SR special Product will be housed in a deluxe long digi-pack, containing a 6 pages of foldout booklet with focus and details on the tour including a collection of live photographs newspapers clips and memorabilia plus a high quality glossy 135 gram paper poster of 50x26 cm size and a high glossy paper bonus art card of 25x13 cm of size.

In matter to have a special collector item, the 400 copies will be presented with four different sleeves variations .All the copies will come hand numbered and individually sealed and Please remember this is a limited hand numbered edition of 400 copies. As tradition the label created various standard and deluxe variations of 100 copies with exclusive content.
