50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special
NBC announced a two hour TV special entitled "The 50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special".
About the show:
We all know Elvis Presley as the "King of Rock 'n' Roll," but it was his '68 comeback special on NBC that truly secured his reign. In that one thrilling special, donning iconic black leather and performing some of his most unforgettable hits, Elvis reclaimed his glory and put himself back at the top of the charts. This season, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that epic evening, an all-star group of music's superstars will pay tribute in Nashville, Tennessee, recreating the spectacle - even the staging - of that legendary night of song. In addition to the musical performances, we'll see rare Elvis footage, outtakes and interviews from those involved in the '68 comeback special, including Director Steve Binder. Whether you're a lifelong fan or just getting to know Elvis, this is an event not to be missed.
Production Company: Ken Ehrlich Productions
Executive Producer: Ken Ehrlich ("The Grammy Awards," "Elton John: I'm Still Standing," "A Grammy Salute," "Sinatra 100: An All-Star Grammy Salute").
Saturday Night Fever
The Ragdoll import-release "Saturday Night Fever" has been released. It contains the near complete March 30th dinner show, which was previously released incomplete on ''Live From Las Vegas'' by the lf2 label, however this was a simple copy and paste job from vinyl source, and missed several songs (including "My Boy" and "I'll Remember You"). However the Ragdoll label was able to obtain a new source, which included the near complete show (the tape ran out near the end of ''Hound Dog''). Despite being incomplete the producers were able to get another tape of this show to complete this release, which was the source used for the "The Live Years" 3-LP set by the Astra label, back in the mid 80's, this time finally from tape source and not from a needle-drop. The sound is ambient and very good, the only song left incomplete is ''Can't Help Falling In Love''.
