April 20 - From Elvis Celebration to U2 Service

Due for release May 2019 is the Dutch book "From Elvis Celebration to U2 Service - The Use of Pop Music in the Church" (original title "Van Elvis-viering tot U2-dienst - Het gebruik van popmuziek in de kerk) by Fred Omvlee, Jan Andries de Boer and Piet van Die.

The book describes how to organize and prepare a church service around pop music. Many pop songs contain a religious layer. No wonder that pop music is increasingly being given a place in church celebrations. The Top 2000 services and the Elvis celebrations are well known in The Netherlands. In this book, the authors elaborate on the religious content of pop music and its value to the church. There seem to be many artists whose music can get a place in church services, such as BLØF, U2, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. The book concludes with a small theology of pop music.
