Elvis Presley’s Graceland announced that the next inductees to the Graceland Legends program will be The Sweet Inspirations.
EPE stated: The Sweet Inspirations provided backing vocals for Aretha Franklin and other R&B greats and had a hit of their own with their signature song ‘Sweet Inspiration’ before they started working with Elvis in 1969. Estelle Brown, Cissy Houston, Sylvia Shemwell, and Myrna Smith were the members during Elvis’ first Las Vegas engagement at the International Hotel. After Houston left the group, the three settled on being a trio. The Sweet Inspirations were Elvis’ female backing vocal group from 1969 to 1977. Their rich F&B gospel-infused harmonies and stage presence delighted Elvis and his audiences. When introducing The Sweet Inspirations, Elvis was known to tell the crowd, “They Sure live up to their name.”
Graceland Legends is designed to honor and recognize the musicians and musical groups who were an integral part of Elvis Presley’s legendary career. In addition to being recognized in a ceremony at Graceland, the honorees will also be added to the Graceland Legends exhibit at Graceland.
Past Graceland Legends inductees including James Burton, Ronnie Tutt, Glen Hardin, Jerry Scheff, Scotty Moore, Bill Black, DJ Fontana, David Briggs, Norbert Putnam, Charlie McCoy, and The Jordanaires.
The induction ceremony will be part of the Conversations on Elvis in January at Graceland during Elvis' Birthday Celebration.
We look forward to recognizing their contribution to Elvis musical legacy with fans from around the world.
