The Dutch Almost In Elvis published the 120-page A-5 sized illustrated paperback 'Blackstar' in their ongoing Elvis themed publication series. The Dutch version of Dennis van Tiel's book is out, an English version will follow later.
Publicity stated: In the nineteen-fifties, the South of the so-called United States in particular formed a hotbed of social, cultural and artistic contradictions. While society was deeply divided by racial segregation, a musical revolution was simultaneously taking place that would culminate in Rock and Roll.
The peculiar interplay between racism and non-judgmental music gave white artists a Black sound and Black artists a sound they had long deserved. Naturally, Elvis Presley cannot be absent from all the poems, short stories, essays and columns that 'Black Star' has to offer.
Inside you can also find an article by Nigel Patterson (Elvis Information Network) and Kees Mouwen (Elvis Day By Day).
