June 24 - Tom Hensley Died

American musician, pianist, keyboardist, bassist, and songwriter Tom Hensley died.

Throughout his career, Tom Hensley built an impressive reputation as a versatile musician. He became best known for his collaboration of over forty years with Neil Diamond, just like Elvis' former drummer Ronnie Tutt.

Hensley's connection to Elvis lies primarily with the special Palm Springs Sessions of 1973. During these intimate recordings at Elvis' home in Palm Springs, Hensley played bass guitar and provided backing vocals alongside Donnie Sumner's gospel group Voice. On September 23, 1973, he contributed to recordings of, among others, 'I Miss You' and 'Are You Sincere'.

His contribution to Elvis did not end there. Hensley is also mentioned in biographical overviews as a backing vocalist on various studio recordings from Elvis' later years, alongside members of Donnie Sumner's gospel group Voice. Several sources count 'Way Down' among those recordings, Elvis Presley's last major hit single, released in 1977.

In total he contributed to ten Elvis recordings: 'And I Love You So' (vocals), 'Are You Sincere' (bass), 'Bringin' It Back' (vocals), 'Fairytale' (vocals), 'Green Green Grass of Home' (vocals), 'I Can Help' (vocals), 'I Miss You' (bass), 'Pieces of My Life' (vocals), 'Shake a Hand' (vocals), 'Susan When She Tried' (vocals), 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E' (vocals) and 'Woman Without Love' (vocals).
