A new King has been crowned, with 'ELVIS' star Austin Butler winning the Golden Globe Award for best actor in a motion picture, drama.Baz Luhrmann was unable to turn his nomination for Best Director - Motion Picture into a win. The movie also missed out on the Golden Globe for 'Best Picture - Drama'.
Even while accepting a Golden Globe for his dynamic performance as Elvis Presley in the eponymous film, Austin Butler just couldn't drop the King's Mississippi drawl.
The California-born actor won the award for best actor in a dramatic motion picture at Tuesday's ceremony for his portrayal of Presley from adolescence to his untimely death at age 42. Butler delivered his speech with the same Southern lilt he employed in "Elvis," which he hasn't been able to drop since filming.
"My boy, my boy!" he said with a smile. "All my words are leaving me."
Butler concluded his acceptance speech in true fanboy fashion, with a nod to the King himself: "You were an icon and a rebel, and I love you so much!" Butler crowed, pointing toward the sky. "You are remembered, and I will never forget!"
Lisa Marie and Priscilla attended Golden Globe Awards in support of critically acclaimed movie. Lisa Marie was joined on the carpet by Jerry Schilling, now 80, Elvis' longtime friend and member of the so-called Memphis Mafia. She sat with her mother Priscilla in the hotel ballroom during the awards ceremony and became emotional when Austin Butler, 31, won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture.
The actor also thanked Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley, who were in the audience. “Thank you, guys, thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever,” he told the pair as piano music played louder and louder to urge him to wrap up his speech. And that’s when Butler offered up a suggestion for the person behind the ceremony’s play-off music. “You could at least play ‘Suspicious Minds’ or something!”
Priscilla Presley is a fan of Austin Butler! “Extra’s” Billy Bush caught up with Priscilla at the 2023 Golden Globes, where she praised Butler’s performance in “Elvis,” saying he “nailed it.”
On Twitter she posted: "My heartfelt congratulations to Austin Butler for the Golden Globe award for best actor. It was much deserved. He studied Elvis for 2 years & simply became him in his performance. I’m so proud of you. I only wish that the genius that Baz Luhrmann captured was also recognized."
