Hugh McIntyre noted for >>> Forbes: Throughout the half-century he’s been a superstar, Elvis Presley has seen dozens of albums come and go on the Billboard charts. He released an incredible amount of music during his lifetime, and in the decades since he passed, his estate has continued to share unreleased music and repackaged favorites.

These days, one title in Presley’s discography stands out as the most successful—at least for the time being. Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits has remained the go-to compilation for countless fans to stream and buy the tunes they love the most. It’s that set that can almost always be found on at least one chart in the U.S.—and sometimes on multiple lists at once.

Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits reappears on a pair of charts this week. It’s not new to either of them, it’s already spent well over 100 frames on the two tallies, but it does manage a comeback, as it wasn’t present on either roster last time around.

Presley’s compilation lands highest on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart when looking at where it returns. On that list, it refreshes at No. 46 on the 50-spot ranking of the most-consumed rock and alternative projects in the country.

At the same time, Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits is back on the Billboard 200, the company’s list of the most-consumed albums and EPs of any style. On that chart, Presley reappears at No. 174.

In the past tracking period, Luminate reports that Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits moved a little less than 8,700 equivalent units. Nearly 700 of those are pure purchases, while fans listening on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music make up much of the rest of those thousands of units.

As it makes its way back to both the Billboard 200 and Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits can also be found on one other list in the U.S. The compilation rises 14 spaces on the Top Country Albums tally, settling at No. 33 this week.

Review Elvis, Hero of the Comic Books

Elvis fan Richard van Slingerland gave the hardcover edition of 'Elvis, Hero of the Comic Books' book a 5 Star review on Amazon.

I was surprised when I received the book and started reading in it: I didn’t know the King was in so many comic books during and after his lifetime.

It is a heavy, nice looking book with a lot of photos/ pictures and it reads very smooth. After an introduction, all the chapters are logical and nice to see that the authors pay a special attention to Ger Rijff.

From Nigel Patterson I did not read anything before, but of course I read the wonderful yearbooks of 'Elvis Day By Day - The Year In Review') from the other author Kees Mouwen and that’s why I got this book.

It is always a pleasure to read a book of Kees Mouwen, spending my afternoon with it and I did: I finished it in one breath as a nice and fun book. Both authors must have spent a lot of time making this overview.

To me, as a fan of both Elvis and comic books, the book looks it’s complete, but I am sure the authors have now more inspiration for a part 2. As a true fan I can recommend this book, you won’t regret and long live the King TCB!

Where to Buy the Book

If you like what Richard wrote, here is how to get the book. The hardback (8 x 10 inches) edition is available from the >>> Blurb webshop and the softcover edition is available on Amazon sites like >>> Amazon U.S. and >>> Amazon Germany (associate links).

Australian based fans interested in a signed copy of the softcover can contact Nigel Patterson at: smorgasboard777@gmail.com for a special price offer.

Fantasy Femmes of Sixties

Fantasy Femmes of Sixties Cinema: Interviews with 20 Actresses from Biker, Beach, and Elvis Movies: Tom Lisanti is an award-winning film historian who specializes in 1960s-70s film and TV. His name is probably not known to many Elvis fans as he has never written a book solely about Elvis. However, his series of books about 1960s films, particularly those focusing on beach and drive-in movies, are filled with interviews and information about Elvis from numerous of his (female) co-stars.

One of his books, 'Fantasy Femmes of Sixties Cinema: Interviews with 20 Actresses from Biker, Beach, and Elvis Movies', is being reissued in softcover (322 pages; illustrated - b&w) on August 30 (it was originally published in 2003).

It is described as: Elvis Presley musicals, beach romps, biker flicks, and alienated youth movies were some of the most popular types of drive-in films during the sixties.

The actresses interviewed for this book (including Celeste Yarnall (cover image), Lana Wood, Linda Harrison, Pamela Tiffin, Deanna Lund, Diane McBain, Judy Pace, and Chris Noel) all made their mark in these genres. These fantastic femmes could be found either twisting on the shores of Malibu, careening down the highway on a chopper, being serenaded by Elvis, or taking on the establishment as hip coeds.

As cult figures, they contributed greatly to that period of filmmaking aimed at the teenage audience who frequented the drive-ins of America. They frolicked, screamed, and danced their way into B-movie history in such diverse films as 'Eve', 'Teenage Millionaire', 'The Girls on the Beach', 'Dr. Goldfoot' and the Bikini Machine', 'Three in the Attic', 'Wild in the Streets', and 'Paradise, Hawaiian Style'.

This book is a celebration of the actresses' careers. They have for the most part been overlooked in other publications documenting the history of film. 'Fantasy Femmes' addresses their film and television careers, focusing on their view of the above genres, their candid comments and anecdotes about their films, the people they worked with, and their feelings in general regarding their lives and the choices they made. The book is well illuminated and contains a complete list of film and television credits.

Other Lisanti titles worth investigating for information about Elvis include 'Drive-In Dream Girls: A Galaxy of B-Movie Starlets of the Sixties' and 'Talking Sixties: Drive-In Movies'.

The book can be ordered from >>> Amazon (associate link).

Sold!

During the recently held auction by Gotta Have Rock 'n' Roll, several unique items from Elvis Presley's life were the main attractions. Despite the expected high earnings, the final sale prices were disappointing.

One of the most notable items was an acoustic guitar that had once been played by Elvis himself. The guitar, which was initially estimated to be worth about US$30,000, ultimately changed hands for just US$10,000. This was a significant letdown, given the historical and emotional value attributed to the instrument.

The lower return could possibly be due to a lack of serious bids or decreased interest from collectors at that time. In addition to the guitar, there were several pieces of jewelry op for grabs. Furthermore, several original movie posters brought in only $75 each.

Although these items are undeniably valuable to Elvis fans and collectors, the final sale prices demonstrate that not every memorabilia event guarantees high returns. Whether it's due to a temporary drop in interest or simply bad luck during the auction, it's clear that the market for Elvis Presley memorabilia can be complex and unpredictable.

Details of some of the rings for sale:

Elvis Presley Owned and Used Gibson 1957 L48 Sunburst Hollow Body Guitar.

Description: This 1957 Gibson L48 sunnburst hollow body acoustic guitar was owned, played and used by Elvis Presley extensively when he received it in late 1956. According to the letter from Alan Fortas that accompanies the guitar, when Elvis received his draft notice for the U.S. Army, he gave the guitar to him. Later, when Elvis was released from the army, Fortas brought the guitar back to Graceland one day when Elvis was having a party, and he left the guitar there, tellling Elvis that he hadn't played it much. Fortas said he thinks it was one of the first times anyone every returned a gift to Elvis, and that Elvis got a big laugh out of it. In addition to the letter from Fortas, the guitar is also accompanied by a letter from Charlie Hodge, who states that after the guitar was returned, Elvis would often play it when they played together at the house.

Alan Fortas was a close friend, employee, and "Memphis Mafia" inner-circle member. Fortas was Elvis's ranch foreman at the Circle G range, appeared with Elvis in many films as an extra and was with Elvis in the concert in the round segment for the famed 1968 NBC "Comeback" special. Elvis Presley first met Charlie Hodge when he was with a group called the Foggy Mountain River Boys, and then the two met again when both were called to Germany in service in the U.S. Army. They became good friends and Elvis converted a space at Graceland for Charlie to live in, which he lived in until Elvis's tragic passing. He was Elvis's stage director, sang harmony and played guitar on stage with him, handed Elvis his scarves, and helped with the set lists for the shows. Earl states that after he was finished working, Elvis asked him to sit down while he was sorting some jewelry he had owned for a while, because he had just acquired some new jewelry. He showed Earl this ring, asking him what he thought of it, and of course Earl said it was beautiful. Elvis caught Earl as he was leaving the room and told him to wait because he had forgotten something, saying that since the ring had Earl's initials on it, it must be yours. Earl thought he was joking, but his uncle goes on to say that Elvis never took a no when he wanted to give you something!

August 22 - Settlement

The drama within Elvis Presley's surviving family appears to be over, as his late daughter's ex-husband walks away with a six-figure sum for expenses made on legal fees according to an update from >>> Yahoo.

Lockwood used the money while fighting for the rights of his 15-year-old twin daughters, Finley and Harper Lockwood.

Lisa Marie Presley, the King of Rock and Roll's only child, tied the knot for the fourth time to Michael Lockwood. She welcomed twin daughters with him, children he vehemently fought for amid disagreements over her trust. Following the settlement between the beneficiaries, Michael Lockwood filed a reimbursement motion. The 63-year-old seemingly implied a settlement would never have happened without his interference and used that claim to plead for reimbursement.

Michael's lawyer, per the documents, recalled that "After Lisa Marie's death, the Promenade Trust was the subject of litigation, primarily focused on who should be the trustee." He continued: "To protect and represent their interests in this litigation, Finley and Harper sought and secured the court appointment of their father, Michael Lockwood, to serve as their Guardian Ad Litem."

The attorney praised Michael, claiming that "through the significant efforts and contributions of the parties, including Mr. Lockwood and his counsel, all disputes surrounding Lisa Marie's estate were amicably and efficiently resolved. ... From the outset, Michael and his counsel played a central role in helping keep the parties focused on resolving those issues with minimal court intervention," the lawyer concluded.

The settlement Michael allegedly helped with was reached after a heated battle between Elvis's former wife, Priscilla, and their granddaughters. Unfortunately, Priscilla challenged the signature on her late daughter's will. She tried to enforce a previous will that named her the co-administrator of the estate. Priscilla's actions resulted in months of legal drama and a speculated feud between her and her grandchildren.

The court agreed that Lisa Marie's oldest daughter, Riley Keough, must pay him US$188,275.32 in legal expenses. As a trustee of the Promenade Trust, the 35-year-old couldn't escape the responsibility of reimbursing her late mother's ex-husband. However, the responsibility didn't fall on her alone. The court noted that US$94,137 would be deducted from the twins' interest in the Promenade Trust, which included most of Elvis' estate, such as the famous Graceland.

Will Michael Lockwood's reimbursement motion be the final payment coming out of Elvis Presley's trust, or will another debt pop up?

New Polish Elvis Book

Due for release on October 23 in Poland is the book 'Elvis Presley: Niezwykłe życie' ('Elvis Presley: An Extraordinary Life') by Beata Pawlikowska.

Publicity stated
: On October 23, the book "Elvis Presley: An Extraordinary Life" will be released in Polish bookstores. According to the publisher, Wydawnictwo Przylądek Dobrej Nadziei, it is "the first comprehensive Polish biography of Elvis Presley, entirely based on the accounts of people who knew him personally."

The author of this extensive, 848-page publication is Beata Pawlikowska, an experienced radio and television journalist known to listeners from the popular show "The World According to a Blonde" broadcast on Radio ZET.

Many Elvis Presley fans, like myself, will surely remember her late-night shows on Program 3 of Polish Radio, where she presented the discography of the King of Rock 'n' Roll (it was thanks to Ms. Beata and her shows that I got to know individual Presley songs and became enamored with his music).

Just like in those programs, Beata Pawlikowska's new book will be full of interesting facts and anecdotes from the life of the legendary singer. "People who knew Elvis personally tell fascinating stories about him," according to the press release. "Some are funny, others are touching or incredible. Elvis had close encounters with UFOs, read countless books, had a photographic memory, and an extraordinary musical talent. He wanted to become a monk, had a magnetic effect on women, was always on the move, constantly searching for something and coming up with new ideas. He loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. On impulse, he would give away cars and jewelry as gifts, believed in the power of healing, and even cured a gospel singer of cancer. He was young, beautiful, sensual, had a magnificent voice, and became the first-ever youth icon."

Review Elvis, Hero of the Comic Books

Mariusz Ogieglo reviewed 'Elvis, Hero of the Comic Books' for Elvis Radio 24h in an article titled 'The Elvis Presley Phenomenon'.

I read comic books and I was a comic book hero,” Elvis said at the 1970 Ten Most Outstanding Young Americans awards ceremony.

The appearance of Elvis Presley on the music market in the mid-1950s not only turned the entire music industry upside down, but also initiated a true socio-cultural revolution on an unprecedented scale.

Almost overnight, this previously unknown truck driver became a symbol of massive changes. A man whom millions of his fans began to follow. A man who began to dictate new trends not only in music but also in the way of dressing and stage behavior. He was the first artist to be censored by television. The first singer in history to play an unplugged concert and finally the first singer to play a satellite concert broadcast around the world.

Elvis has become a cultural phenomenon and there is probably no field of art in which you cannot find references to him or his work. Over the years, Presley has been inspired (and made the hero of their works) not only by other musicians, but also by painters, sculptors, writers, poets and even comic book creators!
And it is the latter that is the subject of Nigel Patterson’s latest book, 'Elvis. Hero Of The Comic Books'.

The author, currently the administrator of the popular Australian website Elvis Information Network, in his extensive, 450-page volume (the size of an FTD book) collected and carefully described over four hundred titles of comics and graphic publications (the oldest from over seventy years ago), which, in less or more indirectly, they make Elvis Presley their hero.

The reader will find everything here, both illustrated biographies of the singer and fictional stories in which Elvis (or his caricature) appears. “Overall, I wanted to appreciate an aspect of Elvis’s career and influence that has not yet been well documented,” said the author in an interview with Kees Mouwen of Elvis Day By  Day blog. The latter was also responsible for the graphic part of the book, which is truly impressive! It is worth mentioning that as many as six hundred photographs and various types of graphics were used in the publication!

I highly recommend this book!
