January 29 - Follow That Dream April 2023 Releases

The Follow That Dream collectors label announced the April 2023 releases: the 3-CD set 'Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden' and the book / CD / vinyl set 'The Making Of Blue Hawaii' by David English and Pal Granlund.

Description 'Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden': After Elvis completed a hugely successful and sold-out tour filmed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for the 1972 documentary 'Elvis On Tour' in April, confidence was high in the Elvis camp with all four shows at New York's Madison Square Garden sold out, as did the rest of the June tour. Any reservations Elvis might have had about performing in the Big Apple were quickly dispelled as the noise from the MSG crowd was deafening. The New York Times 'Arts and Leisure' headline summing up the triumph read 'Like a Prince From Another Planet'.

Elvis As Recorded at Madison Square Garden with the evening show of June 10 was a rush release later in the month and sold a million copies in the US in just a few weeks. Total US sales to date exceed 3 million, achieving triple platinum status. The afternoon show was eventually released by RCA as An Afternoon In The Garden in 1997, 20 years after Elvis' death.

This belated FTD 50th Anniversary Edition celebrates these legendary shows with remixed versions of both shows by Memphis recording engineer Matt-Ross Spang. Disc 3 contains the original press conference, recorded at the New York Hilton on June 9th.

Packaged in our 8-inch 'Sessions' slipcase, this deluxe 3-CD includes a 20-page color booklet, great photos, memorabilia, press conference transcript and reminiscences of the late Phil Gelormine.

March 24 - Come What May at the World's Fair

Due for release on May 8, 2023 in the United Kingdom from Warner Bros. is the Blu-ray of 'It Happened at the World's Fair', directed by Norman Taurog and starring Elvis Presley, Joan O'Brien, Gary Lockwood, Vicky Tu and Yvonne Craig.

This Blu-ray was previously released as part of Warner Bros. 'Archive Series' in 2021 in the United States.

Description: Fun, music and Elvis all happen in this romp boasting one of the best backdrops of any Elvis Presley movie: the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, with its showpiece Space Needle, monorail and more. The King of Rock 'n' roll plays pilot-for-hire Mike, whose hope of starting his own flying business is grounded by the gambling of his copilot Danny (Gary Lockwood). The two hitch to Seattle, where Mike finds romance, Danny finds easy marks and both find problems prior to a "Happy Ending". Kurt Russell, star of 1979's biopic Elvis, plays the child who wallops Mike in the shins. And among the 10 songs are "I'm Falling in Love Tonight", "Relax" and the gold record "One Broken Heart of Sale".

Double Platinum

The British Phonographic Industries certified the singles 'Suspicious Minds' (released November 14, 2004) and 'Can't Help Falling In Love' (released January 10, 2005) 2X Platinum for selling over 1,200,000 copies (streams plus digital downloads plus physical sales). These certifications mark the 4th and 5th B.P.I. awards for Elvis in 2023.

Come What May - The Lost 1966 Album

The Reel Trax import record label announced the release of the double CD-set ‘Come What May - The Lost 1966 Album’, to be followed by an single disc LP later this year.

Publicity stated: Many people, in concerns of music, sports, politics and many more genres just love to ask: What If…..? Elvis fans do that as well! So let´s get to the point: What If RCA had released an LP album like our brand new Reel Trax release in November of 1966?

We don't know for sure of course, but we assume that the view on Elvis' career in the sixties would probably be significantly different. But since this obviously did not happen the way we wish it had, Elvis is mainly being remembered in this decade as a celluloid artist. His last studio album that had nothing to do with “typical” movie songs had been 'Pot Luck' and it had been released way back in 1962. In the meantime the majority of Elvis' album releases had clearly been dominated by his movie soundtracks (which showed in releases on singles and EPs as well – plus we all know that there could have been that so-called “lost album” in 1963, which never materialized).

It seemed to be a perfect formula to maximize financial success by releasing movie soundtrack after movie soundtrack. Even considering taking the risk to lose  the credibility of the performer, who once was known a “rebel”, a man who changed just about everything in contemporary pop music business, just ten years earlier.

Lost Album, Missed opportunity?

Tracks 1 to 12 are taken from the forthcoming Reel Trax vinyl release 'Come What May' (LSP 3718), which deals with a so-called “Lost Album” theory for November 1966. All other songs used for this CD release are mainly based on international 45 RPM single releases of 1966. While some of the titles are well known single release from RCA (like 'Tell Me Why' and 'Blue River'), the 'Girl Happy' songs 'Do Not Disturb' and 'Spring Fever' were single releases in India. The 'Paradise Hawaiian Style' LP tracks 'Drums Of The Islands', 'This Is My Heaven', 'House Of Sand' and the movie title track were only released on single releases in the Philippines (on the RCA record label).

By the mid-1960's it was time to reflect on Elvis' musical career, to think about changes, to have respect for new influences in terms of songs and sounds. History learns us that this never happened. And still, there were opportunities to bring back some of that old magic from a couple of years earlier. One of those "chances" was in May 1966 when Elvis returned to Studio B in Nashville for a recording session with enough material for two albums! One of them would become the Grammy-Award winning gospel album'How Great Thou Art' The other one could have been similar to the one you hold in your hands. Elvis was highly motivated to do the sessions and he did a mighty good job on the material, which consisted of gospel songs and well chosen covers ranging from Folk to Rhythm and Blues titles.

The 'How Great Thou Art' LP became a Gold Album and Elvis was very proud of it. But what about the remaining songs from the May 1966 sessions? What happened to the possible second album? Well, there was no second album! The songs, which could have been used for another pretty solid and more artistic album, were scattered over various singles and used as bonus songs on various soundtrack albums. Again we would like to ask the question "what if ...?"

To give these recordings a new fresh ambience, the best, and most interesting Alternate Takes for the songs have been chosen for this release. The second disc comprises more complete and partly Spliced Outtakes of the titles from the fisrt disc. Discover a stand-out and never before released version of 'God's Gonna Cut 'Em Down' (also known as 'Run On') which features a splice of Takes 1 and 6. Also included are the original demos of four songs sung by Bobby "Red" West, two of them were even written by him!

March 23 - Heroes of History

Volume 302 of the Dutch It's Elvis Time magazine featured a review of 'Elvis Day By Day 2022'. In the magazine Rogier van Luijken stated:

"You only have to blink your eyes once and another year has passed. But that also means that a new yearbook will be released by Kees Mouwen, the driving force behind these books as well as his website ElvisDayByDay.com. Prior to that, he was also one of the co-founders of the well-known - but recently defunct - website ElvisNews.com.

We have previously written about Kees' yearbooks. And once again, the I had the honor to make a modest contribution to this year’s publication, so writing a review requires an objective view to inform you as honest as possible. Fortunately, Kees makes it very easy for me, because even without my contribution, this voluminous, 400+ page edition is another finger licking book. And if I may say so, this 2022 edition is the best of all Yearbooks to date."

This marks the 7th positive review of the 2022 edition of 'Elvis Day By Day 2022'. Read the full review in the magazine, available at >>> It's Elvis Time or at >>> PoplarTunes.com

March 21 - The Crowning of A King

Frank R. D'Onofrio published his 331-page book 'Elvis: The King of Rock and Roll: Book1: The Crowning of A King' as both a paperback and hardcover book.

Description: Did you see the Laz Buhrmann movie "Elvis"? This Book focuses on things the film should have addressed. It answers the question, Is Elvis, The King of Rock & Roll? Yes, he is!

There is no reason for debate, it is a fact, without Elvis, there could be no Rock and Roll music as we know it. Elvis' impact on culture, music and the societal implications point to something no one has ever considered. Who else could have done it?

Why is Elvis: The King of Rock & Roll? The distinction becomes more blurred by only looking at the definition from today's perspective. History was never meant to be told from today's perspective. It must be experienced in the context of the time it happened. You cannot decide based on "Elvis the end result."

Talking about this 60 years later illustrates a culture seeking to rewrite the history of what happened. Believing people at the time should have today's perspective and could do it better. Why Elvis was given, the title harbors fierce debate, and racial tensons. Some take it personally, believing he should not have it and never earned it. This book seeks to end the debate once and for all. Starting with the premise: Music /artists of the time bear little resemblance to the music/artists playing today. After Elvis stepped into the future on July 5th, 1954, accidentally singing "That's Allright Mama." everything changed.

Elvis "The End Result" happened after his coronation on September 9th, 1956. Prior to that, Rock and Roll did not exist. Elvis sold America Rock and Roll Music. He started in 1954. The answer is in the facts of what happened between 1954 - 1956.

It is why John Lennon said, "Before Elvis, there was nothing."; Leonard Bernstein said: "Elvis is the greatest cultural force in the twentieth century. He introduced the beat to everything, music, language, clothes; it's a whole new social revolution – the '60s comes from it."

Elvis Presley unwittingly altered a trajectory of history in a single moment the night of July 5th, 1954. Igniting a spark and starting a firestorm. This Book illustrates what happened. Steps Elvis Presley took to move from obscurity and poverty to superstardom. This could never be explained in today's context or terms.1954 is different compared to today. Destiny was no accident! The world was a different place.

The firestorm Elvis caused, transformed the definition of what popular music represented. Elvis went on to transform the music/entertainment industry landscape; along with it, changed our culture. He transformed the world, and how we see one another. Elvis and Rock and Roll Music became a catalyst for change. My objective: place the reader in the shoes of a young 19-Year-old Truck driver from Memphis. Recreating and describing people and moments defining a young Elvis. His audition failing, the moment, he and Rock and Roll Music became his destiny.

The Baz Luhrmann film "Elvis" was an important, Like Elvis himself, it was an exciting visual and musical film experience. But it left out his whole story. The people and environment that defined him. The initial stir was not Elvis' shaking. That came a year later. It was THE MUSIC he created causing a revolution. People reacted initially to his music. His effect on music and pop culture occurred before the world had ever seen him perform!

The film focused only on Elvis' physical attributes, leaving out his contribution of creating Rock and Roll music experience. Not showing his true genius as the man who virtually transformed Rhythm and Blues into Rock and Roll. With Television catapulting him to international stardom.

Within two years, Elvis went from the brink of a failed audition to the largest-selling recording artist in the world. He sold Rock and Roll Music to mainstream America. This is Elvis' journey from local Truck driver to his coronation as The King of Rock and Roll. I Hope you will experience the journey again with me as your guide.

Elvis, Man and God Paperback

Estelle Hough published her 331-page paperback 'Elvis, Man and God'.

DescriptionThere really is only one thing that needs to be said here: The only reason you are not mesmerized by Elvis Presley is because you don’t know enough about him.

If you are new to Elvis, this book is for you. If you are a long-standing fan, you may be surprised, this book is also for you. Links are provided to YouTube videos. Writing in normal script is true as far as can be ascertained by cross-referencing biographies, memoirs, interviews and videos about Elvis. Script in italics is sometimes based on truth, sometimes fantasy. Expect some hagiography and spiritual references – they are difficult to avoid when dealing with Elvis.

An Elvis favorite quote: ‘Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free’.

The Name Code

Australian Christopher Byrnes Matthews re-published his books 'The Name Code 1: The God Of Elvis' (554 Pages), 'The Name Code 2: The God Of Elvis' (533 Pages), 'The Name Code 3: Hidden Messages In The Bible and Koran' (647 Pages) and added a 4th volume titled 'The Name Code 4: The Path To Graceland'  (481 pages).

Summary: Based on the Hebrew language, hundreds of long-hidden messages are to be found scrawled like graffiti throughout the holiest texts of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. They infect every book, epistle, and Gospel like a deadly virus. Wherever they are found, the avalanche of messages cross-reference each other, continually restating their stunning claims.

Hundreds of precisely placed messages are encoded in the names of Elvis Aron Presley and eight generations of his well-recorded ancestors. The eloquent biographic messages prophesy the King's future glory as a world-famous singer. The accompanying network of biblically themed messages makes many other far more startling revelations. Manifest in the flesh, the singing rock idol Elvis Presley was God on Earth. He was the real Messiah Son of David. Rock-idol Elvis was the immaculately conceived son of the real God of Creation, the ancient rock-idol Bull-God, El-Baal.

In all, more than 2,000 examples of name-code messages are provided both in Hebrew text and in English translation. Inexorably all the messages lead one to Graceland, Memphis, Tennessee. The four books total more than 2,000 pages.

Note: “Please don’t shoot the messenger!” These books are arguably an controversial, challenging and incredibly dense Elvis book set, and not “something for everyone”

Postpone Hearing Lisa Marie's Trust

According to Radar Online Priscilla Presley has pleaded with the court to postpone the first scheduled hearing on her petition to be named trustee of her late daughter Lisa Marie’s trust to mid-May, as her feud with granddaughter Riley Keough intensifies.

Back in January, Priscilla filed a petition in court demanding an alleged amendment to the trust not be enforced. Elvis’ ex did not provide any details on why she needed additional time.

In court documents, Priscilla said the trust was created in 1993 and amended in 2010. She said she was named the co-trustee along with Lisa Marie’s ex-business manager Barry Siegel.

Recently, Priscilla revealed Barry intends to step down as co-trustee. She said per Lisa Marie’s will that meant Riley would take over his spot. She believed that both she and Riley should serve as co-trustees. However, Priscilla noted there was an alleged 2016 amendment that was floating around. The amendment removed her as co-trustee and appointed Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley and son Benjamin as co-trustees. Benjamin died in 2020.
