Publicity for the ‘Elvis Selected Recordings 1956 – 1958 Christmas Package’ stated
: A special 2-CD set in limited-edition Christmas packaging, featuring a fine selection of recordings from 1956 to 1958. The first disc (previously released as ‘Christmas Sessions’ on the ElvisOne label) contains all existing recordings from September 5, 6, and 7, 1957, including released versions that differ from the standard released master. The second disc offers a great collection of outtakes, interviews, radio spots, and more, spanning 1956 to 1958 (previously available as ‘Legendary Elvis’). Several of these tracks cannot be found on any other CD.

This set features the unique radio spots for the films ‘Love Me Tender’ and ‘King Creole’. The label ElvisOne was the first to release these radio spots on CD. For an Elvis fan, it is fantastic to hear them, especially the spots for ‘Love Me Tender’ and ‘King Creole’! This set includes them all!

October 21 - Frankie and Johnny and Maria

Adam Greenaway did an exclusive interview with Maria Columbus, author of the book 'Elvis 1970: That's The Way it Was in Oakland - A Photographic Memoir' that was released last month.

Maria was one of those incredibly fortunate Elvis fans who witnessed music history being made. From seeing Elvis during the recording of his legendary 1968 Comeback Special, to experiencing his sensational return to live performances in Las Vegas in 1969, and following the King on tour throughout the 1970s, Maria has a lifetime of extraordinary memories and personal stories to share.

Imagine being there when Elvis returned to the stage, witnessing his incredible charisma, hearing that unmistakable voice and experiencing the excitement of an Elvis Presley concert first hand!

In this exclusive interview, Maria takes us behind the scenes of those remarkable years, sharing her personal recollections, fascinating encounters, unforgettable concert experiences and the stories behind her extraordinary photographs.

Adam and Maria take an in-depth look inside her beautiful photographic book, 'Elvis 1970: That's The Way It Was in Oakland', featuring memories and images from Elvis's historic November 10, 1970, performance at the Oakland Coliseum Arena.

In this special interview which will be released in five parts, and it is much more than a book interview. It's a fascinating first hand account of Elvis Presley history, told by someone who was actually there! For Elvis fans, historians and collectors, Maria's memories offer a wonderful opportunity to revisit an extraordinary era through the eyes of a devoted fan who experienced it for herself.

On the Elvis Information Network, Nigel Patterson reviewed the book. Go >>> here to read the review.

The book is available from >>> Amazon and >>> Blurb.

Duke Bardwell Died

Bassist Duke Bardwell passed away, he was 83.

Bardwell played 181 shows with Elvis between January 1974 and April 1975. He joined the TCB Band in 1974 when Emory Gordy left the TCB Band on the recommendation of Ronnie Tutt. He remained with The TCB Band until Jerry Scheff's return in April 1975.

Ronnie thought Duke fit for the job because he was. 'a simple but funky feel-good player'. Duke flew to the RCA studios in Los Angeles for the audition and in January 1974, got the job as bass player. "It was a dream come true, working for Elvis Presley!" Bardwell stated.

Although he wasn't as well known as Jerry Scheffs playing, his work with Elvis is well documented and well appreciated though various Soundboard and Audience recordings but most famously featured on the 'Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis' Album, recorded at the Mid-South Coliseum during Presley’s return to Memphis. He can also be heard on 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E' on the 'Today' album, his contributions on other songs was replaced before the final release of the LP.

In an interview with the magazine 'Elvis: the Man and His Music' Bardwell commented about his bass-playing being removed from the final 'Today' LP release.

He said, "I don't know whether they didn't like what I played - perhaps my parts were horrible, I don't know. But I was gone not too long after that and don't know whether they took me off the album just to be mean or not. I don't know. I understand that there are some tapes around with my playing still on 'em - the original session tapes, before they were overdubbed for release. I thought 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E' was great. I loved that. Elvis was so good at that syncopated funky stuff and always had lots of fun with it."

In the end Felton Jarvis used bass players Norbert Putnam and Mike Leech to record new bass lines on all the LP tracks, apart from the single 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E' which had already been rush-released. Further overdubs were also carried out, including the addition of excellent guitarists Chip Young and John Christopher (co-writer of 'Always On My Mind' & 'If You Talk In Your Sleep').

I, Elvis. The Immortal Story of the King of Rock

Diarkos announced the March 31, 2027 release of an expanded 608-page edition of 'Io, Elvis. La Storia Immortale del Re del Rock' ('I, Elvis. The Immortal Story of the King of Rock') by Paolo Borgognone.

Publicity stated
: Both before and after his passing, Elvis Presley has held a special place in the pantheon of 20th-century icons. Revolutionary, scandalous, and irreverent - swept up first by success and later by excess - the King of Rock transcended the boundaries of music to become a global pop-culture icon.

Paolo Borgognone traces his extraordinary trajectory: from the poverty of his childhood to his explosive rise to fame, from the glitz of Hollywood to his stint in the military, and ultimately to his status as the greatest of them all, a position that never shielded him from the personal torments and vulnerabilities of the man behind the legend. Featuring previously untold anecdotes and exclusive interviews, this new, updated, and expanded edition revisits a human story that came to a tragic end fifty years ago, on August 16, 1977, yet remains indelibly etched in the firmament of world music.

October 16 - Rockin’ in Trouble

The SR import record label announced the November 2926 release of the Lp ‘Rockin’ in Trouble’.

Publicity stated
: ‘Rockin' In Trouble’ is an ambitious project that aims to showcase Elvis's rock side from the 1970s. Following ‘Promised Land’ and ‘Burning Love’, we are now focusing on the 1975 rocker ‘T.R.O.U.B.L.E.’, which we believe is Elvis’s last true rock single.

The new SR will include a double LP set, taking us back to Elvis's second tour of 1975, specifically covering the three concerts he performed at the Jackson State Fair Coliseum on June 8th and 9th. Additionally, a bonus 7-Inch EP will be included, which focuses on an analysis of the song. This analysis explores the song's development, first in the studio and then in concert.

This double vinyl set features a soundboard recording of three Jackson shows that were previously released on CD. This is the first time they are available on vinyl format, and the recordings have been remastered from the analog mono source, ensuring superior sound quality. The glossy gatefold packaging will include a bonus 30 x 30 cm glossy photo. Additionally, the bonus EP vinyl allows listeners to experience an exceptionally clear sound while exploring the evolution of the songs.

We aim to showcase Elvis at the height of his potential. His March 1975 recording of ‘T.R.O.U.B.L.E.’ and the Jackson shows in June 1975 are undoubtedly among the best moments of the year, highlighting him at the peak of his performance. He delivers both an outstanding studio session and remarkable live shows. As suggested by the title ‘Rockin’ in Trouble’, the performance features Elvis with a reinvigorated rock attitude, fully committed to his craft, even as underlying problems began to surface that would later become challenging to manage.

Just before his Las Vegas season, Elvis voluntarily returned to the studio to work on a new album titled ‘Today’. The standout track from this session is definitely the song ‘T.R.O.U.B.L.E.’ This fast-tempo rocker features an exciting piano duel between David Briggs and Glen D. Hardin. ‘T.R.O.U.B.L.E.’ captures the same intense energy that Elvis had rarely shown since his NBC-TV special. It remains a mystery why this remarkable single only reached number 35 on the charts instead of topping them.

We have compiled three shows of Elvis Presley into a double LP set, aiming to create an ideal listening experience featuring his best performances at Jackson. These shows showcase a solid collection of Elvis's classic repertoire, all well-executed. While the range of his performances is extensive, his rocking side is more prominent in this collection. Notable highlights include the rocking trilogy: ‘Burning Love’ from 1972, ‘Polk Salad Annie’ from 1970, and his later single ‘T.R.O.U.B.L.E’ along with the classic ‘The Wonder of You’. These tracks undoubtedly stand out as the highlights of the show.

This new SR release comes housed housed in a deluxe 300-gram sleeve that includes the double 150-gram vinyl and a bonus card.

To create a special collector’s item, we will produce 390 copies, each with three different vinyl color variations on red, white and on white colored vinyl. All copies will include glossy stickers, are hand-numbered, and sealed individually. Please note: this is a limited set of only 390 hand-numbered copies. So you can collect three variations of the glossy art card.

October 14 - An American Critics Story

Reclam Publishing announced the February 27, 2027 release the 520-page hardcover book 'Elvis Presley. Eine Amerikanische Geschichte' ('Elvis Presley: An American Story') by Heinrich Detering.

Publicity stated
: "Before Elvis, there was nothing," John Lennon famously claimed. Leonard Bernstein called Elvis "the greatest cultural force of the 20th century," noting that he transformed everything from music to language and fashion, ushering in a new social revolution.

Heinrich Detering recounts the story of this American revolution: the emergence and evolution of Elvis Presley’s art; its social, cultural, and political connections to an era he himself transformed; and its enduring impact on the present day. This book opens up new perspectives on the life's work of an artist who remains endlessly fascinating, and on the social energies that found expression through him.

The book is available from >>> Amazon.

Critics Choice Documentary Awards

The nominees for the 11th Annual
Critics Choice Documentary Awards have been announced. Both Baz Luhrmann and Johnathan Redmond have been nominated in the categories 'Best First Documentary Feature and Best Editing respectively.

The 'Elvis Presley in Concert' movie was nominated in the categories 'Best Music Documentary' and 'Best Archival Documentary'.

Although the filmmakers had more than enough footage to justify a streaming-service miniseries, "EPiC" was edited to a relatively tidy 97 minutes to be a theatrical feature film, and enable Elvis to return to cinemas for the first time since the 1970s, when such documentaries as "Elvis: That's the Way It Is" and "Elvis on Tour" enjoyed theatrical distribution. Explained Redmond: "The big man with the big voice deserves the big screen."

The winners of the awards will be announced during a gala in Manhattan on November 8, 2026.

October 13 - We Aim to Raropiu

Elvis graces the cover of the Italian music Raropiu culture, music and movie magazine with inside an article on Elvis 1962 - 1964 discography.

From the magazine's website
: Colonel Parker continued to steer Elvis’s career, adept at generating revenue from both films and records by targeting an audience seemingly accustomed to buying anything bearing the name of the "King of Rock 'n' Roll." This magic formula proved successful until 1964, when the arrival of the Beatles and the "British Invasion" radically shifted the tastes of the new generation.

By this time, Elvis was living in Hollywood, tirelessly shooting films in increasingly picturesque, postcard-worthy locations; alongside the soundstages were the recording studios where he would quickly cut the accompanying soundtracks. It was a lucrative arrangement for both the Colonel and Elvis, with the latter receiving half a million dollars per film plus a percentage of the box-office receipts. Presley continued to record hit songs, and the Italian market flourished during these early 1960s, seeing the release of numerous records that celebrated a phase of the singer-actor's career defined more by commercialism than by artistic merit.
