February 13 - Elvis UK Extended Tracklisting

Authors John Townson and Gordon Minto announced that this new 500-page book 'Elvis UK - Extended: The Ultimate Guide To Elvis Presley’s British EPs 1957-2001' will be available early March 2024.

The book is available for pre-order, exclusively through >>> Now Dig This / Elvis The Man And His Music for UK£58.

This new volume in the 'ELVIS UK' series contains:
  • Complements previous Elvis UK publications.
  • Is extensively illustrated in full colour throughout, including a range of images of Elvis himself.
  • Details the history of extended play releases, their popularity and subsequent fall from favour.
  • Features a wealth of background information, revealing exciting new details and information regarding tax codes and price changes as shown on labels – as well as tabling chart positions.
  • Offers technical but clear details regarding manufacturing, along with matrix numbers and their significance.
  • Where appropriate, each EP release is cross-referenced with its US counterpart and key differences discussed.
  • Includes a chronological list of all the EPs included.
  • Discusses each extended play album individually, in a detailed and forensic way, while the extensive text is amply illustrated with scans of every known cover and label variation, relevant photographs, and scans of contemporaneous newspaper and magazine articles and adverts.
In short, as readers have come to expect from each of the previous 'Elvis UK' publications, this book is intended to be the last word on its subject, in this instance, the much-loved extended play record format as seen in the United Kingdom.

Icons

Elvis Presley graces the cover of the Australian Women's Weekly Icons Magazine (issue 2024/2) with inside the article 'How The King Got His mojo Back'.

The publicity notes: Revisit the magic of Hollywood’s golden age with a new Icons issue. From leading lady Lucille Ball’s path to becoming our favourite funny girl to the secret lives of stars including Frank Sinatra, Leslie Caron, Burt Lancaster, Elvis' 'Return to the throne' and more there are 164 page of gripping reads and vintage photos to enjoy.
Featuring plenty of photos of Elvis at the Comeback Special the article is the regular run-through of while this TV special was so important...

... For a while, it looked like the singer had lost his Midas touch. But when he turned what was supposed to be a Christmas special into a searing reminder of his stage prowess, it would kickstart a third act for the King. In 1968, Elvis Presley’s crown was slipping. He’d gone from being a guaranteed hit-making machine – with hordes of teenagers fainting at his shows – into a middling Hollywood presence whose movies were becoming more and more clichéd.

It all began with his first meeting with the show’s producer, Bob Finkel. Bob had worked with other A-list stars including Eddie Fisher and Dinah Shore. And he knew that Elvis could do far more than don a Christmas jumper while singing standard carols.

Priscilla Blu-Ray

Lionsgate Home Entertainment released the 'Priscilla' movie on ‎ as a digital copy, DVD and Blu-ray combo pack.

Popculture wrote: While there is no commentary track on the home release, we get something even better. The half-hour short documentary The Making of Priscilla: A Film by Liv McNeil is included with the release. While there's also a 10 -minute studio-backed featurette, "Brushed with Beauty: Creating Priscilla's Story," McNeil's piece is so much richer. The teen filmmaker shares intimate shots behind the scenes of the shoot, all while pulling out some great interviews with Coppola, Spany, Elordi and others. Everyone seems so much more relaxed and interested in speaking with McNeil than a standard PR doc team. This short is a fantastic accompaniment to Coppola's work.

And for the spec-heads out there:

  • DVD Format: 16x9 (1.85)

Product Description
: When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend.

Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla's long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.
