The multi-artist soundtrack, led by Elvis Presley, spent one previous week on the list, dated July 9 (at No. 35), following its initial release via digital retailers.
In the United Kingdom the soundtrack album held on to the No. 1 spot on the Soundtrack Album chart too!
Billboard noted: In the tracking week ending Aug. 4, the 'ELVIS' soundtrack sold 8,000 copies (up 1,466%), with 7,500 of that sum on CD. (The remaining 500 were digital album purchases.) On Top Album Sales, the 'ELVIS' soundtrack – billed as by Elvis Presley and Various Artists – gives Presley his sixth top 10 on the chart since it launched in 1991.
Billboard also notes that after less than two months in theaters, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis has grossed more than US$141 million in the U.S. and Canada, according to boxofficemojo.com. The film, starring Austin Butler as the King, Elvis Presley, is the third-highest-grossing music biopic in terms of domestic box-office (which the site defines as the U.S. and Canada) since the mid-1970s.
Elvis has grossed more than US$261 million worldwide. In terms of global box-office, it’s No. 2, just behind Bohemian Rhapsody, the Oscar-winning 2018 biopic of Queen‘s Freddie Mercury.
