September 10 - Charts September 2022 - Week 2 (Updated)

The weekly Elvis Presley chart update, Elvis found his way up in the U.K. charts. On the U.S. Billboard charts our man dropped on the main charts, but climbed various sub charts.

The weekly Elvis Presley chart updates with another first for "our man". Tom Hanks is known for being in #1 movies, as most of his career has been comprised of blockbuster hit after hit. The same can be said for his current film, which is now in the #1 spot on streaming. That film is the biopic that covers the life of Elvis, which is aptly titled, 'ELVIS'.

There is a good reason why the film has jumped into the #1 spot on streaming, and that has everything to do with the torrid relationship between Elvis and Tom Parker. Tom Hanks and Austin Butler breathe life into these characters in a great way, and fans of Elvis’s music will love seeing how his life played out.

Despite being available on both PVOD and the HBO Max streaming service, director Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis is still making noise at the box office. The maximalist music biopic has now passed the US$150 million mark at the domestic box office, after over two months of release. It's currently the eighth-biggest film of the year, ahead of major titles such as Nope, Lightyear and Uncharted. Worldwide, the film has made more than US$280 million, and has a shot at passing the US$300 million mark when the dust settles. As they say, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings, or until Tom Hanks’ Colonel Tom Parker croaks.

The numbers:

• Domestic (53.2%): US$150,287,493.

September 07 - Les CDs En Or D'Elvis

The French VPI record label announced the November 11, 2022 release of the 3 LPs set 'Les Disques En Or D'Elvis', originally released for Record Store Day 2022, the ‘I Sing All Kinds’ LP as an expanded double CD with 24 Alternate Takes and the CD edition of ‘Elvis In Paris’, containing 27 Alternate Takes.

Publicity for 'Les Disques En Or D'Elvis' stated: The two discs contain the first three volumes of the 'Elvis Golden Record' with bonus tracks, taken from the 'The Other Sides: Elvis Worldwide Gold Award Hits - Volume 2', using Alternative Takes when available.

The CDs come as replica LPs, housed in a gatefold cover. The set was compiled by the French Elvis My Happiness fan club.

Publicity for ‘I Sing All Kinds’ stated: The title of this album, released on vinyl in 2019, was borrowed from Elvis himself who answered the question “What kind of singer are you?” with “I sing all kinds”.

And that’s exactly what this album reflects as, next to the 12 songs from the original 2019 LP edition of this album, it contains 12 bonus songs which illustrate Elvis’ answer above

These songs show the immense possibilities his voice had, singing all kinds, from Rock 'n' Roll to the Gospel, to the Country, to the Ballads and even singing the Blues.

Publicity for ‘Elvis In Paris’ stated: The 2019 vinyl album ‘Elvis in Paris’ commemorated the 60th anniversary of Elvis' visit to our capital, in June 1959. At that time, the French fans discovered two albums, ‘King Creole’ and ‘Elvis' Gold Records volume 2’. On this set you'll find the songs from the original LP with 10 bonus tracks from the same period. The French fans never forgot that Paris is the only European capital that Elvis chose to visit, three times!

The albums were produced by Jean-Marie Pouzenc, and all songs were remastered for these CD re-issues.

La Vraie Histoire

Piggybacking on the release of the 'ELVIS' biopic, the French Les Editeurs Reunis re-issued Kathleen Tracy's 272-page biography '...' as 'Elvis, La Vraie Histoire' on May 25, 2022. The original English edition was release as 'Elvis Presley: A Biography' in 2006.

Description: An iconic figure in American popular music, Elvis Presley paved the way for generations of artists with his blend of talent, charm and provocative spirit. Almost forty-five years after his death, his legacy continues to stand the test of time.

But beyond the glitter and eccentricities often commented on in the press, little is known about the hellish life that the singer led and that shortened his career. This is why this book moves away from the traditional clichés by presenting the human aspect of the king of rock and roll. It reveals disturbing confidences about the idol and elucidates questions for which the public had never had answers.

It realistically evokes the childhood of the star, in conditions of great poverty; his beginnings and his tours in bad places; his unhealthy fixation on his mother; his vertiginous rise and his daily life of destructive debauchery; the gilded cage that he inflicted on Priscilla, his too young fiancée, whom he believed to be the reincarnation of his dear mother; the despotic domination to which his unscrupulous but brilliant manager subjected him.

The "King of Kings" as you have never seen him, stripped of his stage costume. A man like the others, overtaken by his own legend, with a destiny as exceptional as it was tragic.

4K Cover Art

Here is the package for the Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray of 'Blue Hawaii' from Paramount Home Entertainment. The set is due for release on November 15, 2022.

The question is why they used images from the movie 'Paradise Hawaiian Style' ...

It is also the 11th highest-grossing movie in the world so far this year.

September 01 - New Official Elvis Video Without ...

A new official video for 'Unchained Melody' was released on the Elvis Presley YouTube channel. In the new video we hear Elvis sing the classic song as it was recorded live on April 25, 1977 in Ann Arbor Michigan.

The video is promoted as: “Godspeed your love to me” Watch mesmerizing visuals accompany Elvis' soothing voice in the new official music video for 'Unchained Melody'" ... but Elvis is nowhere to be found (while CBS footage is available).

As this performance can be found on the recent 'ELVIS' soundtrack, it should be so hard to come up with a more fitting video ...
